While details are sparse, five people were injured in
a chlorine leak that occurred at the Apple data center in Maiden, North Carolina on Monday, according to local news reports. The leak was reported about 2:30PM ET, and may have been connected to a water purification system. The 183-acre facility, which Apple has run since 2010, is one of the largest data centers -- and renewable energy farms -- in the United States.
Unknown woman dumps Apple I at recycling center
An unidentified woman dropped off
a 1976-era Apple I -- one of the original batch of 200 -- at a Bay area recycling center, apparently unaware of its value. The Clean Bay Area Center, which sold the unit later for $200,000, is looking to find the woman in order to give her her half of the proceeds -- approximately $100,000 -- per the center's policy of sharing sales with donors.
The Apple I, which was hand-assembled by Apple co-founders Steve Wozniak, Steve Jobs, and other helpers, was sold for a fraction of the price that a working unit can fetch. Working models, which are thought to number under 10 units, can go for
up to $1 million. The woman did not identify herself in April when she donated the unit, and even refused a tax receipt. The unit originally sold for $666.66 at retail during its brief production run.
