I've got a 3rd Gen 40 Gb iPod that I'm thinking about updating to the newer models, largely due to the video capabilities. Much of the viewing will be in a dark room, so therein lies the question.

I assume that the black iPod will be less noticable/stand out less than a white model if the only light source is the screen itself. Does the white ipod's visible edges distract from video viewing in a darkened room, or am I making a mountain out of a molehill?

You're probably making a mountain out of a molehill, because your eyes will adjust and you won't even notice the case after a while. However, as an owner of a black video iPod, I can attest that it does indeed "dissapear" in a dark room, which I find to be a very nice effect.

Thanks...that's what I'm assuming. Guess I need to load a DVD on my iMac this evening and turn out the lights and see how noticeable it is. That's probably a decent approximation, though on a larger scale.
