Okay so I am in my first year programming, and on our first assignment we have to make the temperature converter. Everything is going perfectly fine and I am almost done, however the formula supplied to us for converting Celsius to Fahrenheit does not make sense!

Here's what it is...

f = 1.8c + 32

I have no idea how that makes sense mathematically. Can someone give me a hand here?

I just started messing with it and it's supposed to be: X * 1.8 + 32 ... X being the temp. in Celsius.

Look at the formula you have worked out. Swap the X with c... back to the original formula.

What it is saying (in plain English) is "The temperature in farenheit is equal to 1.8 times the temperature in celcius; plus 32".

If you need more help I'm sure someone will explain more... but this is basic high-school algebra. I'm not sure how well you'll do in the rest of the class if this baffles you.
