Is there a good alternative to Apple's DVD player ??? I have become disatisfied with it and wonder if anyone knows of a DVD player that is just as good, if not better.

VLC is the only one I know of, and it's not nearly as polished as Apple's player. The only reason I use it occasionally is because it can play discs from any region.

I use Apple's player when I need to, altho I rarely watch a movie on my computer.
I just wish fast-foward would be faster than 4x. For some titles with long chapters, it takes FOREVER!

Too many Apple/Mac products to even bother listing!

You can easily set it to 32x if you wanted to.

Why don't people bother looking in the menus before they ask questions?

I use VLC (Video Lan Client) almost exclusively for DVD playback. It's replaced Apple DVD Player in my dock. Not only does VLC play any region DVD (my drive is locked), but it includes software decoders for 5.1 Dolby EX and DTS. I use my 17" PowerBook and the M-Audio Sonica Theater to send discrete 5.1 Audio to my speaker system, which lacks hardware decoders. VLC also includes 5 or 6 different de-interlacing options to remove interlacing lines and artifacts from DVD sourced from video. Apple's DVD Player has no such features. I'm amazed that VLC is free. It does have a higher learning curve, but the Videolan community is very helpful. You can get it here.

Scooters are more fun than computers and only slightly more frustrating

Woops...my bad. Like I said, I rarely use it, so I've never checked around in the menus, or if I did, I (personally) didn't associate "Scan rate" with "Fast Forward speed."
