<vent>15 days ago I ordered and paid for an i7 iMac with 2Tb HD and 8Gb RAM from a local department store (David Jones). I buy my Apple hardware with the RAM I want because one time in the distant past I upgraded the RAM myself then a few months later the firewire bus died and they (Apple) tried to blame the Kingston RAM.
The computer finally arrived today but with only 4Gb - not the full 8. They kept the iMac 'cause they weren't sure what they were going to do. I am so friggin annoyed. $3,700AUD out of pocket and nothing to show for it.
The stuff up was at Apple's end - seems they take a fax or something from DJs and re-enter the order into the Apple ordering system. </vent>

Why not order online from the Apple Shop downunder?
They (DJ) would have had to have ordered from there anyway.

Why wouldn't you just take the Kingston RAM out and then send it in for service? Seems like an awful lot to pay just to not have to do a RAM swap out for service which may not happen.

I'm sure I'm not the only Australian laughing here.
Here's the Apple Store in Bondi, the suburb where you live:

Yeah, but would a retail store have a mostly maxed out iMac? Most of the stores here carry only one or two at a time, and are usually sold the day, or after, it’s found out about.

Still, why wouldn't you order from Apple vs. a department store?
