Ok, steering clear of Politics, War and Religion, what do you believe in? Do any people on here believe in anything strange and is this belief based on personal experience? Does anyone on here believe in Aliens (either those that have visited us or maybe they just stay at home). Can Uri Geller really bend spoons? Have you been to a psychic and had them really nail your future or has a bottle of water that may (or may not) contain super diluted essence of gubbins made you well again?

When she was much younger my daughter had very bad excema which did not respond to initial treatment. Against my better judgement my wife used a homeopathic remedy in her bath for a week or so and the excema got better na dhas not returned (she is 10 now). However I still don't believe in homoeopathy. I expect we fell into the class of people where she would have got better anyway. Perhaps I'm just stubborn.

I'm pretty solidly negative on the Loch Ness Monster too, but that didn't stop us all looking out into the loch as we drove along it last holiday. The view was pretty cool though so it was worth the looking.

Basic bathing and keeping it clean without soap but with moisturizing remedies can help eczema, and kids do grow out of the disease as well.

Maybe she just started using less soap when she started using that homeopathic remedy?

Ghosts. Saw one once. It's well documented on here somewhere, so I'll not go through all that rigmarole again.

Breasts. Saw a pair once.

Rock and Roll. Saw some of that once too.

Eug, there seems to be something of an.... exegetical dilemma in discerning whether or not the Mac tablets exist. We simply have no accurate first hand accounts that such a thing has ever really occurred.

I guess so. whatever it was it wasn't the bottled water, that's for sure, though my wife is now pretty hot on the whole thing, which is annoying.

I'd so love to see a ghost, but I know it's impossible, sorry doof. Out of interest can you link to the thread. I also look forward to the day when the newspapers announce a signal from space. That one's much more likely.

The tablet is simply a myth propounded by primitive peoples, a variation of a more ancient myth existent in all cultures. And after all, has anyone here every actually seen or used a Mac tablet? Touched one? Felt its texture? All we have are dubious mockups, blurry photos, and after-market shams claiming to the be the real thing. But none among us has ever seen a real Mac tablet.

I believe in making obscene amounts of money. And I'd welcome the chance to test this belief.

I've seen one (A modbook, that is.). I wasn't even drunk at the time, unfortunately.

As for things I believe, I believe there ought to be a Constitutional Amendment outlawing Astroturf and the Designated Hitter.....

Look, I haven't seen an official Mac tablet for myself, so I don't believe in one.

It's just the same old ideal repackaged to fit the times. The Hebrews had their 10 commandments carved onto tablets, thinking that they possessed divine attributes from a transcendent source, and now we believe that Steve will bestow unto us a multitouch tablet that taps into an unseen "internets", thereby serving as a means to guide and organize our lives. Believe if you will, but it is all primitive superstition.

I also don't believe that New Zealand exists. It's all a big conspiracy by the Tasmanian Sheep Marketing Board.

And sometimes in really odd inverse ways too. The cynical become the gullible and the gullible become the cynical.

Everyone's gullible about some things.

Not sure why you brought cynicism into this as it's rarely a related trait.

Other than cynicism being nearly the exact opposite of gullibility, you mean?

A cynic, as opposed to a skeptic, is world weary, blasé, negative and generally a sourpuss. Those are not traits that guards you from gullibility.

I believe that most modern music is lifeless and shallow.
I believe that YouTube vloggers and overly opinionated, self-absorbent "regular" bloggers are beyond played out.
I believe that plastic or stone fruit decorations are inexcusable.
I believe in a good nap from time to time.

I believe that there is a world out there that has a picture of a phallus and testicles being electrocuted by jumper cables.

Well, I believe in the soul. The c-ck. The p---y. The small of a woman's back. The hanging curveball. High fiber. Good scotch. That the novels of Susan Sontag are self-indulgent, overrated crap. I believe Lee Harvey Oswald acted alone. I believe there ought to be a Constitution Amendment outlawing Astroturf and the designated hitter. I believe in the sweet spot, soft-core pornography, opening your presents Christmas morning rather than Christmas eve. And I believe in long, slow, deep, soft, wet kisses that last three days...Goodnight.
