Permission issue it sounds like...do you see the same behavior under a different user??

Sure, create another user...login and test the situation under the new user. If it works, then you know it's a "user" issue and probably a permission problem; however, if it persists under the new user, then it's a "system" issue and may be more involved.

BTW, you can simply delete the new user once it's created if you so choose once done...

There's a freeware application out there called "Repair Disk Utility's Permissions", try versiontracker.
Not compatible with Windows

Link (dyld) error:

dyld: /Users/zach/Desktop/Utilities/Disk Utility.app/Contents/MacOS/Disk Utility Undefined symbols:
/Users/zach/Desktop/Utilities/Disk Utility.app/Contents/MacOS/Disk Utility undefined reference to _PMIdentModify expected to be defined in MediaKit

this is the error I get. Do you think that program will help. They have an error listed that the program fixes and it doesn't look the same.

Thanks.

It worked under a new name. I did the repair permissions. Will this apply to my original user name if I delete the new user id. Also, how do I fix my original id so that I can access disk utiliy under that id? Thanks again for the help.

you can change the time when the periodic maintenance scripts run to sometime you're computer will most likely not be asleep.

The crontab for these is located at:
/etc/crontab (just do `sudo pico /etc/crontab`).

you can also check the date on the logs of there to see the last time they ran at:
/var/log/daily.out
/var/log/weekly.out
/var/log/monthly.out
