ThinkSecret: International iTunes Music Stores

BTW, iTunes no longer allows me to browse any of the iTMS stores.

I've been hoping for a while that the rumoured November 26 date was the right day, and the wrong month.

Fingers crossed for Finland.

U2 being on stage should indicate Ireland getting a store, I guess.

In my opinion ALL digital music is compressed. For sure you have never listened to a SME (Series) 30.

What music can you get legally for free that you would have to pay for on iTMS?

Downloading music though file sharing is not illegal in Canada. So anything really.

It's a bit of prickly issue, as you might expect.

Downloading for personal use is not YET illegal in Canada. However uploading files IS illegal. A lot of files on those MP3 sites have been illegally uploaded. Plus, presumably, you can only download from other Canadians.

More importantly, P2P is a big PITA IMO.

OTOH, I'd be more inclined to build up an iTMS collection if the files were 192 kbps. Or 160 at least. I'm not overly fond of 128. It's OK for an iPod, but I'd rather just go to the store and buy the CD. (I rip stuff at 256 MP3 or 192 AAC.)

I am still looking forward to the iTMS though, because it's a hellulot easier to check out new music with it. eg. Use the iTMS 30 second previews, with a purchased song here and there. If I like them, then I run out and buy the CD. So for most music I'll still be using CDs, but for hard to get CDs, I can just use the iTMS if I'm in a rush.

Ya well the main point is 12 year old girls are not being sued up here for downloading one britney spears song.

So, if it does happen... price?

CAD$0.99 would be good, and CAD$1.09 would be acceptable. CAD$1.19 seems a bit high.

Mind you, US$0.99 is worth CAD$1.21 at the moment.

It has been confirmed no iTMS Canada or Austria tomorrow, this is from Apple themselves. On the iPod pages for Apple Store Canada, and Austria, there is no info on iTunes, while Sweden, Japan, etc all have info on iTMS. I was only going to download the free stuff form iTMS (free song of week, free speeches etc) I prefer quality and CD is the best at present (I live for the day that 192khz music comes to the public, until then 44.4khz will have to do).

Yes considering we can get straight it now with no loop (just the no store message), Also at least 5+ other countries have the iTMS message on the iPod page....that aren't the 3 EU or US stores.

English song, but ad for Japan. It seems the only major difference is they specifically put "Goodbye MD" in there.

Yup. In case anyone's curious about this, here's the court ruling and here's the Heritage Minister's response. The promised legislation is supposed to go through this fall (although I can't find it online). Whether it makes it, or any number of minority government headaches draws attention to more pressing matters, we'll have to wait and see.

Someone over at Mac Rumors Forums found a link on the Akamai server's for an image showing 12 stores to launch tomorrow.

News is changing by the minute. This is super tense (even though I will never use the iTMS for buying music). CD's are so dirt cheap are NO RESTRICTIONS

Japan wants ITMS. You know, to beat the tar out of MS Music store, which only has 50,000 songs.

Theres a reason that the iPod is the #1 mp3 player in Japan.

Woot, I just checked it out. I'm not buying tho . I want hardware (CD's) or free songs. Not paying for crap I can't touch, ever.
Well maybe 1 song, just to support Apple. Only 0.99

EDIT: apple.com doesn't mention it tough.

So lots of new European stores, but AFAIK, no Canada.

In other news, rumours suggest a Gwen Stefani No Doubt iPod at some point (not today).

The U2 iPod is kinda fugly though.

In addition to the new iPods, Apple also introduced a set of colored socks for carrying iPods. Apple will sell a set of six differently hued socks for $29.

iPod Photo downsamples images?

"Phil: It looks as though the iPod Photo will be compatible with optional card reader accessories like the Belkin Media Reader however I think Apple just missed the killer-app by leaving this out of the basic design. It's also fairly clear that the iPod Photo won't have the horsepower to display high megapixel images particularly quickly, hence why iTune's default is to transfer downsized images for playback on the iPod Photo. Also the AV dock should have come with a remote control. Despite all this I'm sure it'll sell by the millions. "

Anyone install iTunes 4.7 yet? I can't at this work computer. Hopefully there will be an option NOT to downsample images.
