I've just installed Tiger on an iBook 500 with a 10GB HD. Needless to say, space is at a premium. I've noticed that there's 1GB of files in the System folder; 1GB in the shared Library and another 1G in my users Library. Are there any files in all of this which are unnecessary? I chose not to install the extras such as printer drivers and foreign language support.

At the moment, after clearing out almost all I can, I have only 800MB free!

Get an external.

If you don't need apps such as iDVD, kill it. GarageBand is also a space hog. Can trash Classic if not needed as well.

Yeah I think Classic might be going, but that would mean I couldn't run Photoshop anymore I may move some stuff onto my iPod if possible.

Edit: WHOA! I was this close to deleting Classic when I realised that would mean I couldn't run Sim City 2000 any more! That would be a disaster! Photoshop I could live without... SC2K, no way!

I'm not sure if you scrapped any localizations you didn't need during installation, but if you didn't you could always use DeLocalizer. It hasn't been updated since Jaguar, but I tried it and it says it saved me about 1 GB of space, so if you haven't tried that yet, there you go.
When Vin Diesel pops a can of Pringles, the fun stops after about fifteen minutes.

Do NOT delete the receipts folder as it is needed for repair permissions to run correctly.

I would look for space in your applications/files, or buy an external.

OmniDiskSweeper should also help you find the bigger space users on your machine.
