Nasrudin sat on a river bank when someone shouted to him from the opposite side: "Hey! how do I get across?" "You are across!" Nasrudin shouted back.

Paste into the Terminal:
sudo perl /Developer/Tools/uninstall-devtools.pl

It should have the executable bit set, so the perl is extraneous...

I've done it before, and yes the perl is extraneous.

The reason you should run the uninstall script (as people have suggested) is that the Developer Tools put a lot of documentation and header files inside the various frameworks in /System/Library/Frameworks that take up a substantial amount of disk space.

My guess would be that it would uninstall everything installed by the development tools, so yes.
If you still want to use gcc, then probably just trashing the Developer folder is the way to go, since gcc will still require the header files that get put in the frameworks.

I used the uninstall script back in the Jaguar days and, coincidentally, quicktime ceased to function. Also, I could not reinstall it.
I had to do a complete system reinstall.
Whether the two are related, I don't know; but here is the catch ... I didn't realize it, but Quicktime was running when I ran the script.
