I'm having some odd issues with Mail and my IMAP account. Last week we had an issue with our mail server and since it is fixed, I cannot download any new email in Mail. I know that my IMAP account is working properly because I can access it with another client, but I cannot access my email from either of my Macs running Mail.

In the activity window, it always shows two things:

[INBOX - IMAP] Opening mailbox...
Fetching headers...

and

[IMAP] Communicating with server
[INBOX] Fetching

Neither ever makes progress though. Any idea what is wrong, and how I can fix it?

Try setting up and new account in Mail with the same server information.

If that works, you know the old account has become corrupted.

I just think it is odd that the accounts on both of my Macs would have became corrupted at the same time.

I tried deleting it on one of them, and adding it again, but now I'm having other issues. I'm not seeing any of my IMAP mail or folders and the settings are exactly the same as they were before.

I had a similar problem last week, on one of my Macs, but not the other (same IMAP account). However, quitting mail and re-launching fixed it for me.
