Hi all,

I'm having the weirdest bug with cover flow: some of the files on my library had already artwork; I also got some artwork with iTunes' new feature.

iTunes didn't found artwork for all my albums - something I was expecting. However, in cover flow view, the albums without artwork do not show a black cover, but a live 'house of mirror' effect of iTunes window!!

It's hard do explain and I'll post a picture when I get home - but it looks like an infinite look on images inseide images.

Anyone experiencing this?
Thanks.

I think what you're seeing is an empty frame that, lacking content, gets whatever might be "behind" it by default. I had a lot of time to watch the cover flow get built, and it was pretty interesting how iTunes decided which albums it really had artwork for and which it didn't.

Now if you have this effect after a long time, it may be that there's something odd about your library-not just a lack of a few cover pictures, but maybe something structural in the database.

Of course I might be totallly wrong, and you're talking about something very different from what I'm thinking about, so post pictures ASAP. This sounds at least "cool," even if it's not funcitonal...

Well, the "mirror covers" do show when the cover flow is being built; however, after everything is loaded, it still shows for albums with *no* cover.

I just find it odd because I haven't heard of nobody having this particular issue. I actually though this to be the default behaviour for albums with no artwork, instead of the black cover.
Anyways, I I'll post pictures in about 4 hours (I'm at work now).

I had a similar effect on one computer and not on another. The one where it did happen was an older G4 and the effect did look like a wierd mosaic of my desktop.

That's exactly what I'm having. Did you find a fix?

I haven't tried iTunes 7 on my PowerBook G4 (it was sent to repair), but I'm having the bug in an old iMac G3 500 and an iBook G3 600.

You have the most awesome iTunes ever.

By the way, do you have any haxies or Snapz Pro or anything similarly low-level installed?

Definitely a bug, but a very, very cool one.
The era of anthropomorphizing hardware is over.

I particularly like the "coincidence" of the title of your song...

Well, it is video-related. On the iBook, if I lower the resolution *or* the number of colors, it work properly.

Still think it's weird, I don't understand how the iBook is capable of showing a "live" mirror effect of my desktop (!!) and not a translucid square...

And anyways, how come no one else is having this problem?

So, if I read your posts correctly, you are seeing this problem on:
* iMac G3 500
* iBook G3 600

I believe both of these computers were manufactured around 2001, and have Rage 128 video cards.

If you look at google cache of old CoverFlow versions, it says it doesn't work on Rage 128.

Taking a look at the iTunes download page, it actually states that 16MB VRAM and a 1GHz G4 is required for additional video requirements. Incidentally, you did upgrade to Quicktime 7.1.3 as well didn't you?

Yes, I did upgrate to Quicktime 7.1.3.

So it's definately a video issue; anyways, the cover flow icon should be greyed out on machines that can't run it well.

I'm getting exactly the same problem on my ibook (G3 600). Having said that, it never ceases to amaze me how well most things continue to work on such an old machine.

I get this too on an iBook 500.

I assumed it was the Rage 128 thing.

I get this on my Pismo. But the weird thing is, *Coverflow works perfectly when the artwork has just been downloaded* and *it only happens with autodownloaded artwork*. After restarting iTunes, the House of Mirrors appears but manually added artwork appears correctly...
My Mac is a Pismo G4/550: 1GB RAM, 40GB 5.4k, Airport, DVD-R, and still black, silent and curvaceous!
