I have a home wireless network with an Airport Extreme (NOT the n version) and an Airport express. I have two computers (an iMac and an iBook) in the same room of the house--both show a strong airport signal (four dark lines) and yet the iBook gets a MUCH faster DSL speed test result than does the iMac---

Why is that? Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Many of those speed tests can be dependent on the computer's processor, logic board and hard drive speeds. What flavor iBook and iMac do you have? And what does the Express do in your network?

Well I don't think that's the explanation because if used to work fine

Anyway, the iBook is a G4 933 MHz with 640 MB RAM (the faster machine)

The iMac is a 1.8Ghz G5 with 1Gig memory--

Turning off the DSL modem and Airport Extreme and then turning back on often helps speed up the iMac so that it's the same as the iBook, but then after a few minutes use, it noticeably slows down--confirmed by speed tests

Thanks for your help

I'm still not clear about what the Express does. But you do have an interesting problem!

I use the express to extend the signal through the house

Well I may have found a solution: I changed the Channel from 1 to 10--so far it's working much better. iStumper did NOT show any interference but it still has seemed to help so far--
