I have a friend who is trying to use a new powerbook with Office/Powerpoint to create presentations, save them to a CD, then play them on the college's computer system. It's not working...any ideas?

Yes. Tell the college to buy Macs.

Actually, what he's doing should work just fine. I have no doubt the problem is on the PC side. Office X for Mac is the latest version of Office. Are they using the latest PC version, or are they using an older version?

Other than that, you probably need to provide more specifics than just "it's not working."

What version of Office?
What operating system?
Does the file on the CD show up on the PC?
Did he save it with the proper PowerPoint extension?

I do this all the time. Works fine. chabig has some good suggestions for troubleshooting. Also make sure the burned disc is in the right format.

Did you install tha latest Office X updates? I had some issues with old ppt documents until I downloaded them at:

http://www.microsoft.com/mac/downloads.aspx#OfficeX

I remember that two updates were required

Good luck!
