Anyone using Dreamweaver MX 6.1 with Panther? Just wondering if it works? Afraid to upgrade and be outta biz without Dreamweaver. No, I don't want to upgrade to MX 2004, too slow, too clunky.

I am using mx v6.0 with Panther and it is fine. Slightly faster than with jag too.

Is MX 2004 clunky?

Thanks guys, that was my main concern with upgrading to Panther. I guess I will take the plunge. I can't resist the cool Expose & fast user switching options! I downloaded the demo of MX 2004 and it was bad. Seemed to take forever to load pages and refresh the screen etc. I am only running a PB G4 800Mhz with 512mb but it was still pretty bad.

Yeah, my curiosity wonders if the terrible performance in the MX 2004 trial was due to something that was coming in Panther.

So I guess my question is... has anyone used Dreamweaver MX 2004 in Jaguar and then in Panther, if so.. do you notice any better performance in Panther? If not, I really have to wonder what Macromedia was thinking....

Panther is great in my opinion. You will see many enhancements, especially the Finder, Mail, Expose etc...well worth the money..

I just downloaded MX2004 too and you're right, it is dog-slow. Doesn't set a very good impression for people wanting to upgrade..

Fireworks takes ages to launch..

Well I am glad 6.1 runs with Panther. I would have been extremely upset if I was 'forced' to upgrade to MX 2004 if I wanted to run Panther.

It's funny Macromedia's site has MX 2004 and Panther shown in the top heading picture. There's no point promoting MX 2004 w/ Panther when the suite runs like a** on both Jaguar and Panther. Maybe it's a sign they will actually optimize it for Panther, but I highly doubt that.

I'm not buying Macromedia's spin that MX 2004 is tailored to Panther, but Flash MX 2004 and Dreamweaver MX 2004 seem to be less clunky under Panther regardless.

Could be the upgrade from a dual G4/800 to a dual G5/2GHz, but Panther is legit.

Since updating to Panther I HAVE noticed an increase in performance from Jaguar in MX 2004.

In Jaguar I had ALL SORTS OF ISSUES.

MX 2004 isn't clunky or slow...and also much faster than DW MX 6.1 in Panther on my Powerbook 800.

I will download the trial again once I have Panther installed, but I don't expect much. In my opinion Macromedia really screwed up with MX 2004, Panther or not.

I would appreciate to hear you experience once you download the Dreamweaver MX 2004 trial and run it on Panther. I would try it myself, but I am trying to find a store here that sells anything Mac. We don't have a CompUSA or anythng here.. I guess I will have to either drive to the next major city, or order from the Apple Store.

Thanks for everyone's input!

So when DID you upgrade to 10.3? You seemed pretty ENTHUSIASTIC over MX 04 on 09/28 ...

Since I also have a TiBook 800, do find MX 04 to be very, very slow, but am not running on Panther just yet, that may mean that there still is some hope.

Also, MM now has Panther/MX 04 as the main marketing message at the top...

I installed Panther on Friday. I downloaded the Dreamweaver MX 2004 demo today and installed it. Everything I clicked took 3-5 seconds to happen, including opening a basic HTML document, switching to and from the code mode, and closing the document without making any changes. I threw away the Dreamweaver MX 2004 demo. I'm on an 800Mhz G4 iMac. There's absolutely no excuse for this application to run so slow.

I agree, these were the same issues I was having with the Trial on Jaguar.. I was hoping Panther might make it better. It is pretty sad when GoLive has been so stagnant (and not real fast either), and Dreamweaver has become such a slow beast... I guess you have to have Dual G5/2GHz machines to run it... Who knows.

On my dual G5/2GHz

launching DWMX 2004 takes about 6 seconds

After that, everything is fast.

I only have 512MB ram too, so when my extra 2GB comes in tommorow, I expect I'll quit hitting the page file/virtual memory and things should stay... snappy.

Apple is cruel. MacOSX before Panther, was simply too much for the G4 hardware offerings. My loaded dual G4/800 (for sale!) never felt that fast under Jaguar.

It may take a G5 and Panther to get a decent Mac experience, otherwise, I'm guessing sluggishness is the rule.
