hey guys, any idea how to get Mac OS X 10.2's firewall to turn on at startup? Not turning itself on at startup sorta seems like poor behavior for something like a firewall. I'm using it to limit internet access for some kiosk machines, so I've got the rules set up, and they work until you restart the machine, at which point you need to turn the firewall back on before the rules are reapplied. What's up with it not turning itself on?
Thanks.

did you try to just turn it on in Sharing System Prefs->Firewall?

Sorry about the delay... been busy. To answer the question, yes, I tried turning it on via system prefs. The implication in your response is that the firewall turning itself off is not normal behavior?

The firewall should stay on after a restart. I don't know the reason this is happening. The first step I would try is trashing the /Library/Preferences/com.apple.sharing.firewall.plist file.

Otherwise...maybe use a program like Panther Cache Cleaner to remove caches.

If that doesn't help, I really don't know.
