I think the firewire bus on my iMac G4 (1GHz, 17") is starting to fail. I have a number of hard drives hooked up, as well as my iPod, iSight, and scanner. At first I thought it was just one hard drive starting go, as it would mysteriously dismount when being used for any length of time. But the problem started happening to the other hard drives too, and now the iPod and scanner are spotty at best. The hard drives (4) are daisy chained to one Firewire port, while all the rest are plugged into the other port via a hub. Anyone have any theories as to what might be going on? With the recent failure of my Superdrive, I'm starting to wonder if it's not starting to be time for a new machine...

Just an update, I spoke with an Apple certified repair place and they told me that the cheapest thing to do is to send it to Apple and Apple basically replaces everything under the dome for approx. $500. Suck. I need to get a job. I think I'll hobble along until I can get a new iMac.
