I've read about a rather desperate blog post by the Adium developers to tell the world about their manpower shortage. They claim that less than six people have submitted code over the last few months. This is also the reason they have not yet managed to include A/V functionality. I'm not a developer, I have (essentially) zero programming skills, but I've been using Adium for many, many years now and it'd be a pity if the app would die. Perhaps someone here with the proper skills is interested?

I don't see the app dying anytime soon. Support for Audio/Video.... probably won't happen anytime soon if ever.

I use Skype for audio and use video maybe once a month. For the life of me I can't get any of my family or co-workers to use any type of video chatting. Over the years I've tried it but it never seems to catch on. We end up reverting to voice only but most frequently it's just good old fashioned text chatting.

That's just my experience. I wonder how many people really use video chats.

Co-workers ? Are you crazy ?

The last thing I need is for them to see that I'm not paying attention, pulling my nose or do some other stuff while they waste my time blabbing away

Well... maybe I'm in a unique position but I actually respect and enjoy my co-workers. Being a couple thousand miles away, sometimes it would be nice to actually see their smiling faces.

The co-workers I like I visit at their desk.

But I understand, your situation is different.

I thought the old excuse for no A/V was that is was due to a third-party (e.g. non Adium) project they were going to bolt onto Adium.

We have pushed Skype hard to companies and individuals we're working with - mainly to reduce our phone costs - and the adoption rate has been excellent. We now video conference with partners and suppliers daily.

When we went into business we decided not to invest into a landline system. Everybody has a cellphone with unlimited incoming minutes, all outgoing calls are handled by Skype.

Works extremely well and saves a ton of money.

this is a great APP and I also hope it does not die

AV chats are used a LOT by teenagers and young adults.
I think the reason Its not being used more is because video cams ,while popular, still have not truly caught on.
personally i do like good old fashioned text chat.AV is a novelty i use once in a while.
