Yet Another Vista Rant
What a great big pile of steaming shite this OS is. I have just spent what seems to be the longest 48 hours of my life trying to get a friggin printer to work. Of course its supported, it says so on HP's and Microsoft's sites. No the installation disks didn't need any updated software or drivers, that is according to HP's validation program. When you send a test print page everything is confirmed as working, but guess what the printer doesn't print. During one installation (can't remember if it was install 15 or 26) it said that it had established a connection to the printer successfully. The printer wasn't even connected to the laptop.
So what finally fixed it? Editing the registry and downloading something for an Acer laptop. The laptop that I was trying to get the printer to work with is a Packard Bellend. As an aside, Packard Bellend keyboards are shite as well. Windows fanboys have always slagged off Linux as being too technical, but I can't see that having to edit the bloody registry is a Joe Bloggs task.
In the middle of fixing the laptop, my father-in-law's, my father rang and asked for some help with his Vista laptop.
I have informed family members that I will no longer be supporting Vista.
After finally getting the bastard thing working the father-in-law lets me know that he was supplied with an XP disk for the beast.
Rant over. Sorry, had to get it out.

Sucks. I have yet to be asked to support Vista, so I guess I'm fortunate.

I thought this was a moan about Visa when I first read it...
HP have gotten lazy.
I had a Colour Laserjet 1500 that they refuse to support on Vista - it prints with the XP drivers but always needed a reboot after a print.
Checked HPs website - no Vista support.
So I go look at my slow old Colour Laserjet 4500 - supported!
I look down the list of HP drivers in Vista - support for a Laserjet II - ANCIENT!

I hate command line interfaces in general - they're so complicated and hard to understand, GUIs are way better. I guess I'm just not a computer person.
