Engadget linked to this blog with pictures of the Zune next to the new 80GB iPod. The guy writing it is probably not exactly unbiased, since he has a Zune before they've even gone on sale, but he acts like the difference in size is negligible, but makes a big deal about the difference in weight (the iPod is heavier). The thing is, we're talking about a 30GB Zune compared to an 80GB iPod. I can't help but wonder why he didn't compare it to the 30GB iPod, which is thinner and presumably quite a bit lighter (haven't checked the specs).

But even comparing the two models shown, the Zune seems pretty chunky.

By the way, it just occurred to me that one reason the Zune is so thick is that they had to use plastic for the entire body in order to allow wi-fi signals to pass through.

Against the iPod, Zune looks like a loser (looks alone).

The big picture:
-Zune is great because it means more movies and other media for iPods = companies are accepting portable media players and providing content.

-pressure on Apple to do even more/better with the iPod.

I have a little interest in Zune. I have and love an Xbox 360. The Zune's music is to be bought off a marketplace just like the one on the 360. If there is some really cool integration between the two, I may have to give one a try.

The chances are pretty low though since I just got an 80 GB iPod and have a new shuffle on pre-order.

The only thing I like about the Zune is that it will make Apple ensure the 6G iPod is extra damn good!
