Can a 400MHz PowerBook G3 ‘Pismo’ boot up fine without a battery in it, or is it required to complete the circuit? I currently have two salvageable ones, but neither has a battery or DVD drive. Once I get some HDs into them, will they boot okay even without a battery in them? I’d hate to declare them bricks if they were only missing batteries.

Any Powerbook can boot with AC and no battery.

Steve—many thanks for clarifying that for me. It’s much appreciated!

IIRC, if the PRAM battery is dead, they won't power on.

Ah, that’s definitely worth knowing. Thanks for that. If the things don’t power on when I have the HDs installed, that will be the next thing I check.
