Hi yo!

I did just order a G5 1,8GHZ (tired of my PC) and wonder if anyone
know if it will be possible to use my P4s two 333MHZ 512MB DDRs?

I read that the G5 accept both 400mhz and 333mhz, but will the
addition of 333mhz slow the 400mhz down (like it works on the PC)?

If it slows it down I still think it will be better to use 1,5gb of
333MHz than 512mb of 400MHz, again maybe the PC memory wont work at
all in the mac? :-O

Don't do it. Even if it works, it'll slow down the machine. Just get some 400MHz RAM and sell the 333 on eBay.

I thought the 1.6GHz models used PC333 and the 1.8 & 2.0GHz models used PC400.

In that respect, the G5 PowerMac does support PC333 and PC400 - It's just that Apple chose to equip their G5s with one or the other depending on that model's CPU speed.

As a guess, I'd say that adding PC333 RAM to a system that has PC400 RAM installed would result in all RAM running at 333MHz DDR. Well, assuming the firmware auto-detects the information contained in the RAMs 'SPD' (and assuming the SPD is programmed correctly) - and the firmware adjusts RAM settings accordingly.

In other words, I doubt that individual RAM banks have exclusive parameters. All RAM banks share the same timings. The logical 'fail-safe' setting would have to be no faster than the slowest installed RAM...which is 333MHz DDR in the case of mixing PC400 & PC333.

Ah, I reckon then its not realy worth sticking to the 333:s.
If the G5 turns out the way I expect it too I can probably sell of
the P4 and finance some extra 400 ddr that way

Im gonna check out that acrobat file now!

Thanks for your replys !
