Here's my (and mike's) super smooth, shiny, dark theme!

Edit:
First screen shot....

Click image to view large. [/B]

-------------------------------

Ok i make a mockup that shows more of the theme and made a few adjustments. I am also going to make a lighter version of it latter to address the carbon apps black text problem, but here's what I'd want it to look like if I could do it all dark. (I've still got to make a few of the buttons but you'll get the idea)

I also know some of you didn't like the title bar in my first mockup, so I made a few ideas. I know they aren't that good yet, but it's a start:

My first mockup:

Feedback would be helpful. And if anyone would be interested in helping make it, plz let me know. Also an icon set to match would be sweet if any of you icon guys are interested.

The only suggestion that I have is to make everything a bit "crisper" (ie: like the transition from the buttons in Puma to the buttons in Jaguar... they're noticably flatter and less fuzzy)

Still, awesome job!

The fuzziness is due to the jpg web compression, I wasn't happy about that. I might post some pig or gif images for better color.

If you really care that much, the old topic was inactive right before I posted this new topic and I was going to let the old one die. I don't see any problem with posting new mockups in a new topic... It's not causing anyone any pain is it? And I'm deeply sorry if it has to you.

It's annoying to see a new thread that is redundant and doesn't need to be here. Instead, you should have just replied to the other one (wasn't only like the 10th thread down!?), and anyone who would've actually cared about this theme in the first place would've seen the new post. That's normally how things work.

Whatever...
I like it overall but I find it a bit too dark..May be you could lighten the blue just a bit..I know that you theme is supposed to be " dark" but sill...

I like it, like someone said in the original thread, it's kind if Knight Riderish

It seems to me that the light source on the tabs and buttons are incomplete or uneven.

On the titlebar the light is consistent and even across the top of the bar while the buttons and tabs have more of an oval light shape that ends prematurely it just seems inconsistent to me somehow but then I'm no artist...

Perhaps it would look better if the light was more balanced across them or pushed further out to their edges?

I guess it's just something I'd have to see to know if it was an improvement or not.

Then again, it's more likely I don't know what I'm talking about

On the titlebar coloration, I like the smooth gradient in the middle image over the "wells" of the other two.

Looking good. To be honest, I still like the original mockup the most. The titlebar looks smooth & crisp in that one.

It's the very same title bar in the new mockup, it's the gray background and the image quality that make it less crisp.

Thanks! I'll try to take your input and improove the design.

people will pick your theme idea to death if you let them....I have seen it happen before...personally, it looks like the best theme I have seen so far. Expect to get the " a little lighter", "the title bar should be 3 pixels less rounded", and " the gloss reflection on the title bar is too far up and to the right" type responses...
You can please all of the people some of the time, and some of the people all of the time, but you can't please all of the people all of the time (yes, I know the original saying is "fool" but I think this applies)...just go with what you like, taking in account the technical limitations, such as black text. Good luck.
great idea.

hit me up on aim if you have it.. or email me at mike at trizera dot com to tell me any other services you might talk on. we could throw designs back and forth.. i for one think we could come up with a nice way to combat the black text in non carbon apps so that it is viewable. also the scroll arrows should probably have a half circle indentation to take the circle scroll.. but we can talk about everything if you wanna talk to me more.

Thanks for the more positive feedback! I'll do my best to make this a great theme.

Nice reminds me of the theme that was supposed to come with OS 8, But better.

Not sure if I would use it or not, too flashy for me.

I appreciate that you think so, but I consider Iza to be the true OS X theme king. He has only made unique themes, he changes EVERY single UI elements (take a peek at his Extras.rsrc files), keeps them up-to-date and he has such extensive knowledge of OS X. He was the first to change the boot progressbar, for example.

And.. um, BBX is just a port

And, yeah the Apple menu look is awsome. If the x-+ button have the same effect for mouse-over that would be awsome!

Dark Glass---Bring it on! Anxiously awaiting the use of this sexxy babe of a theme....

Now that theme from Izawa? BRING IT (Period). I want that one too. Max, you maybe correct that he has extensive knowledge--but you Swiz, Dace, Carbon, and the rest of you are doing a faboulous job.

Thanks Again.

PS: Which Menu Bar is Dark Glass going to utilize?

Not to distract from Dark Glass again, but rumor has it that the theme that Izawa has created was based off of Alumite X. It should be out in the next 7-10 days, according to the site. (desktopper.net)

Yup, I plan on all those colors if the blue goes over well with everyone.

Mike, great work! The new buttons I made seem to help a lot, other than a bit of work on the button masks I think it's going great! By the way could you send me that font so I can make the log-in, boot panel, and desktop pics?
