There is no redundancy or backup system. It is not even robustly made. Loose wires literally dangle out the bottom. In the fairly likely event of the software crashing, a wire coming loose, a component failing, or the batteries running low, the wheels will lock and the entire kinetic energy of the system will be used to accelerate my head toward the ground.
Now that's funny

by the looks of that it's possible that some far eastern firm could make a Segway copy and sell if for a little over half price
This guy spent $2500 making his own, that doesn't include any real safely features.
A 'real' Segway retails for almost $5000 on Amazon. So a 'cheap copy' could probably retail for about $3500 with the extra being for the 'safety features' that this guy left out, but any form of commercial product would require.
LOL at this guy who has hacked up his $5000 Segway in to a horseless Roman chariot! What a loon.

I can't believe he uses RC car batteries. Do you think he trickle charges the batteries?

That's pretty cool how this guy was able to build his own Segway. His comments are interesting too, cool stuff.

if it stops working for any reason (software crash, hardware failure, low battery) you will fall, hard, and probably on your face.
Best. Disclaimer. Ever!

It looks like he has a control box mounted behind the handlebars, which is cheating. They don't have any motion controls on the Segway.

well. not that the segway is this big hit device that changed the world or anything, but like a cheesy cover band its a lot easier to copy something than to create something.
