I installed the latest `tetex' via `fink' and now I can't use `dvi2pdf'

The worse thing is that the LaTeX manual is in .dvi format!!!

For some reason it tells that texc.pro header is not found but it's there, I swear!

I installed tetex using the i-Installer. That may be simpler than fink if you can't figure out how to fix it. I also use TeXShop.

Here's a link to these apps.

That's the problem, it doesn't work.
I'm using iTexMac normally. But it failed, and then the command line failed too [the problem is there somewhere]

No, I don't want to do it manually. then I'd have to do it manually every time the source is updated. And no, I don't like TeXShop :-P

Besides that, I have troubles installing `hyperref' via `fink'

Failed: can't build hyperref-6.72-2 because no package description is available

Try to install the binaries instead of the sources

They are older ( a few days) and they work great

On a project like latex who has been up for yeasr, new versions are not very important...

Did you install Ghostscript? If so, just convert the .dvi file. Copy the dvi-file to a suitable directory (in your home dir).

dvipdf nameOfDvi.dvi

Then open the .pdf.
I don't suffer from insanity, I enjoy every minute of it.

TeX sometimes does't like Fink-paths. You really might want to try the i-installer and delete the fink installation.

I get the

dvips: ! Couldn't find header file texc.pro

But the file exists, i don't know what's going on.

You have posted that the command used was dvi2pdf. Unfortunately, there is no such command, its name is dvipdf.

So I assumed that this may be the problem.

sudo texhash is usually not necessary, just when you install something, say, a font. Sure can't hurt though.

I use TeX right from the i-Installer, has always worked for me. I agree with iNeusch that it's nonsense to get the latest binaries (very latest).
