I read that there are linux distros for PC that don't require installation. All you need is a CD and it runs off the CD.

I was wondering if something like that is for Mac too.

One of the reasons is that I was talking with the IT guys at work [they are stupid PC users] and they were saying, "yeah, but you are locked to Mac soft." Which is not true of course... but I don't have hard drive space to install full linux [too much anime and jdrama ]... so I was wondering if I could just show, "check this out! it even run from a CD, linux rules...and Mac rules even more because of this!"

Thank you

For a review of some possibilities:

http://thetechnozone.com/macbuyersgu...sions-pt2.html

LinuxPPC (I don't think its continuing devel)

Gentoo Live

Good luck!

Just install X11 (available with panther) and launch the gimp and emacs

Much easier, and will run strait from your mac

you're probably thinking of knoppix.

as far as I know, there's no similar PPC project, but I could be wrong.

Yes, I was thinking of something like knoppix [I know there are other live CDs for PC too]. I WANT ONE FOR FOR MY TiBOOK!!!

It's not a "need" but it would be super cool thing to show off... that Mac is not, by all means more limited than PC.

Talking about Linux once again. At the current state what is the most PPC optimized one ? I kinda like the idea behind the BSD NetBSD, it installs close to nothing And gives you a package manager out of the box, now that is my *NIX !! But has NetBSD any chance in performance against YDL ? And what about Gentoo or other *NIXs.
