I did a quick search but didn't see this question posted so here goes. I notice that when DVDs are played the sound volume is dramatically less (even at full blast) than in iTunes or QuickTime. Is there any way to get Apple's DVD Player to play DVDs using iTunes or QuickTime to play the audio part?
The DVD Player just is not loud enough on my PowerBook (without external speakers). Unfortunately due to where I'm living I was not able to bring my HK SoundSticks with me. Man do I miss them.
But playing iTunes or QuickTime is fine, in fact the volume is quiet loud. Any ideas?

I think the actual volume of the encoded audio on the DVD is just much lower.

In the preferences, there is a check box that says "Disable Dolby dynamic range compression." Having that unchecked might help.

I think so too. Which if that's the case sucks because what better way to experience booming audio than when watching a DVD movie! But why is it that when QuickTime plays an mpeg or .mov movie the sound is much higher and better? I realize that these are in different formats, but still.

Yep.
Unchecking it (enabling compression) will make everything seem louder.
****s up the sound, IMO - I can't stand overcompressed audio - but then, I don't mind just turning up my amp.
