Newbie OSX Question

If I were to backup my entire "Home" folder, does that mean that my "Favorites" folder will also be backup-ed, or is the "Favorites" folder a separate folder? We're talking about a factory configured Mac, I've not done anything to move things around.

Yep, it would be included in your "Home" folder.

Yes, basically every single user setting is inside your home directory, so backing that up will get the works

back up your address book seperately. I have learned this multiple times but never remember.

Thanks for all the replies. I have a backup external FW hard drive on which I've cloned my main hard drive. Is backing up, or sync-ing the Home folder enough, or should I continue to sync the whole enchilada ala CCC w/Psync? My concern, perhaps unfounded, is that continually cloning a bootable copy is more complex (and hence more prone to error) than simply sync-ing the Home folders. What's the best approach, or does it matter?

To re-phrase the question, what else besides the Home folder is important to backup/sync?
I have a cloned copy of my hard drive on an external fire wire HD. Using ChronoSync, I can pick to sync whatever I want. Is the Home folder enough for OSX, or should I also sync something else?

Why would you need to do that? The address book is in ~/Library/Addresses, inside your home folder.

"/Library/Desktop Pictures" if you have some custom pics.

One more bit about your "favorites" You realize, of course, that favorites are just aliases to other things strewn around on your machine. If you have a "favorite" that resides outside of your home folder, it will not be backed up when you back up the alias to it.

No kidding. David Pogue doesn't mention this in his Jaguar Missing Manual book, you've exceeded even the great David Pogue!
