you know when steve said all macs running leopard would feature 'the entire package'

ie; front row , photo booth , bootcamp etc etc

does that mean the mac pro will eventually be front row compatible ?

i do hope so

i have a 20" imac and would love to go for the macpro and a 30" screen if they had similar a/v functionality out of the box

any news / rumors ???

I think it'd make the most sense if they put this into the new Cinema displays.

They need something (other than the subjective good looks) to differentiate them again.

Yes. Even Apple's Leopard web pages says so:

Now Built In
Mac OS X Leopard offers some new standard features you may have seen before.
Boot Camp
Front Row
Photo Booth

All I know is Apple cant offer the "whole" package and until there is a CS3 and a Universal Maya the "whole package" is a lie.....ok as myth.

There's no guarantee that the MacPro will get an IR port. I mean if it was there intention all along why did they not put it in the MacPro now? I also don't see a new Macpro coming out this January but I could be wrong.

Since I did not see his speach when Steve mentioned the "whole package" did he specifically mention front row, photo booth etc. or did you make that leap?

My final piece of advice is if you have a need for a macpro now, I say get it now and enjoy the faster performance, if you can wait and the need is not immediate then I say wait and see what the future brings

Gah...it's not a lie or a myth, you misunderstand. Apple's "whole" package is all of the software that previously had to be installed separately, such as Front Row, Boot Camp, and Photo Booth. It has nothing to do with third party applications that Apple has no control over.

I'm sure its going to come as part of iLife, right now anyone who has it (by getting an intel mac or downloading it) can get to it by hitting command+esc... so it doesn't need to have an IR port.

No, it's going to come as a part of Leopard. I'm betting upgrades to iLife will still cost.
