The 100-Teen-vs.-100-Parent Promiscuity Poll

Fodder for an interesting discussion that will probably turn into a flamefest.

At the end of the poll on the first page, I got the distinct impression that one parent thinks their child is a slut.

Most notable to me was somehow there was only a 2% difference between people who masturbate and people had sex!

Also, no parent believed their child would give oral sex* (as opposed to the 10 who believed their kid received it)

*excluding the one parent who thought their child is a slut

It is funny parents want to know if their kids have sex and when they learn about it, they go crazy.

Parents often conveniently forget how much they were ruled by their own hormones, so finding that their kids are interested in sex freaks them out. They could prevent this being an issue by talking to their kids about sex...but that means talking to their kids about sex, and that freaks them out even more! Stupid parents!

I've been discussing this with a coworker.

I'd say the girls are less likely to, and those who have are much more likely to consider it taboo/embarassing to admit it.

It's hard to believe masturbation is still considered embarassing and taboo these days.

Because masturbation for a woman means that you have a sure orgasm. Not so with only intercourse. Only men think women have sure orgasm with intercourse only.

Their polling looks kind of off to me. The kids skew heavily toward 11th and 12th grade, but the parents are more concentrated on the younger end of the graph. No wonder there's a disconnect.

Yeah, I noticed that too.

Some of these stats are scary:
26% of parents think their kids have had intercourse, only 7% think they've purchased contraceptives...but only 1% think their kids have had sex without a condom.
