So Apple Corps announced today that they are signing an agreement with Harmonix and MTV to bring the Beatles to the world of video games. Kind of a slap in the face to Apple? Yes? No?
It's funny that a video game will be the first official digital distribution of the Beatles music. Especially after hearing rumor after rumor after rumor of them coming to iTunes.

I've never understood the appeal of music games.
My theory is that our corporate overlords are just training the youth of today to sort colored pellets in the sweatshops of tomorrow.

It's pretty easy. People like music, and not all people know how to play musical instruments. How is any different than racing games or sports games?

But in a racing game you actually do something. In a sports game you actually do something. In a music game, you just push in colored buttons as they fly past you.

If that's as boring as how you want to be, sure.
Edit: So tell me, are you a musician, or have you just not played one of these games?

I'm not a musician, and have played the games. Just not a lot. I'm not very good at them, and I don't find them enjoyable enough to get good at them.
I'm not knocking it. If people enjoy them, more power to them. They just aren't for me.

Just the guitar? There's always the singing aspect, or beating on their makeshift drums. I wouldn't consider myself any type of fanatic, but the game does have a certain amount of appeal, particularly in a social setting.

I'll agree that Rock Band with 4 drunken friends is a hoot, but Guitar Hero is boring as hell, plus I suck at it.

That's like saying in a basketball game you just make a guy run around and press the shoot button a lot.

**** the Beatles. I used to like them, but when that snot nossed punk brat went on the air and said to stop sending fan mail was just ludicrous. What kind of pompous ass says stuff like that? He should be thankful that people still love the music after what, 40 fraking years?

Yes. You run around. Choose where you run. Choose when to shoot. Choose what to do.
In the music games, you time button presses to the movement of colored dots. Colored dots that are the same every time.
There is a difference.
Don't get me wrong. I'm not poo-pooing on the whole thing. If people find it fun, that's great. I just don't.

Never been a fan of the Beatles. My aunt told me that all of the girls her age loved the Beatles, so I always believed it to be 'little girl' music... nothing since then has changed my mind.

Who owns the rights to the Beatles catalog these days ? As much as i'd like to see them in the iTMS, i probably wouldnt buy any of the tunes as i have most of the CDs. i would like the music videos tho. As far as RockBand..... meh. There must have been huge sums of money involved in order to get this headline.

Not having been around back then doesn't necessarily mean ignorance of events.
You've heard about the American fight for independence? Or are you not THAT old?
The Beatles have been pissing people off since day one - and a good number of times, that has included pissing off their "fans".
And really, why should a man worth 65 billion dollars (or whatever) care whether people buy songs he recorded forty years ago?

I think in a racing cam you just push buttons and use the joystick. Not much different. I'm not a fan of either genre but I can see people getting into the music stuff more then a racing game.

See, you can divide by zero so when he puts his last post up the whole forum will go down.

I take that as Dakar slash zero, as in I'm given a choice between Dakar and zero. I'd take zero.
