What did you lot get for the holidays? Post up gifts and toys and whatever else is interesting.
My favorite is a Journey Into Mystery #83, first Thor appearance (CGC 9.0). Completely took me by surprise.

I got a very nice shaving set with lather brush, soap and a safety razor (not grandpa's razor!), and I got the comfiest house shoes I've ever had. It's been lovely.

Whiskey gifts are some of the best. When all else fails, my friends get me a bottle of malt, it's always well-received.
I hear ya, Glenn, I still shave with a real razor (same one for 20 years), there's nothing that does the job quite as well.

Money, clothes, and Assassin's Creed 3.
Also the task of hooking up my dad's new 55" LG, surround sound system, etc...

Clothes, clothes, and more clothes. Though admittedly I'd much rather be gifted clothes then spend money on them (hence everyone who knows me and sees me regularly purchasing me clothes, ha ha).

Nope. Reading all this stuff before I buy it, so I can more accurately assess how much $ the engine needs. They are expensive little contraptions, but ultimately pretty reliable/easy to work on. Also, I can insure it for about $100 a year. So that's nice.

Away over the holiday. Got some random stuff from my folks, but am most pleased so far with the things I got myself. Mini fakelego Tardis! We just got back and haven't finished our tree however so maybe there's some good stuff still from the husband.

Pressies: A decent, heavy, canvas overnight bag, shaving creme, a cast iron griddle press. All very welcome.
Quiet time with the family. Carol services. First, tentative conversations with my birthfather.

I haven't bought comics in over 20 years- do they all come in nifty boxes like that now? I mean, did you take that shot when you unwrapped it, or did you have to send it somewhere to get the cover with the rating? Back when I collected, it was all mylar bags and acid-free backings, and you had to take it to conventions to get a rating.

I got an Asus Transformer TF300 + keyboard. It's FREAKING AMAZING. I love it. I want to marry it and have its babies.
Nah, not really, but it is pretty slammin'.
BF's mom bought us the limited edition Star Wars xbox 360. It's amazing and makes beepy R2D2 noises when you press the buttons on it.
I bought BF a really nice Nikon DSLR.
So it was a good Christmas all-around, I think...

I received a 200 shot Red Ryder BB gun, a 1400 piece Lego set of some kind of Christmas village but with eskimos, and some shirts.
If anyone says I'll shoot my frickin eye I out, I swear to god I'll stick you in a god damn pizza oven. I heard that about a thousand times since Christmas.

Husband came through with a jewelry tree, new PJs and fuzzy socks. Then I scouted the sales and picked up some Dr Who DVDs for cheap. score!
We are enjoying Just Dance 4 on the wii. Amusing fun.

Ah, bless ed lumbar support.
Today I bought some M4 threaded stainless rod, 20mm hex spacers, moulding silicone, casting polyurethane and some release agent. Exciting eh?

That chair looks a bit like a torture device.
That said I bet it's awesome. One of my past jobs bought me an Aeron, and it was fantastic.

I wanted to get myself a Thunderbolt drive last week but found it hard to find any (relatively cheap) drive with thunderbolt. I had to settle for USB 3.0.

Agreed. I wanted a RAID-style backup system of 4-6 Tb but could not find a Thunderbolt option for less than $650 up here, which was not an option.
USB3 options were much more reasonable, but I'm using this as a media storage for 1080p movies and saw some complaints of saturation. I still don't think that would be an issue, but I said screw it.
So I got a 1Tb external thunderbolt drive for now. It still doesn't solve my problem of having everything backed up (I currently don't ) but it'll work for right now, and hopefully will be able to somehow daisy chain it into a RAID Thunderbolt system in the future.

Spoke too soon. I'd asked for the above drive and didn't look terribly closely at the box when I opened it. Turns out the Thunderbolt drive was sold out and so I got a larger (3TB) USB 3 drive for the same price. Ahhhh well, even at 7200RPM I shouldn't have to worry about saturating it to the point of affecting performance I suppose. And at least this way I can back up some of my personal stuff to the external drive as well, just to have copies all in one backup spot. (Currently they're spread out over a number of smaller drives, which is a real pain in the ass if I want to make sure something's backed up).
I'm most excited about the possibility of SSD Thunderbolt drives. I've never seen one (if they are out there I'm sure they'd be wildly expensive), but for a computer like the Mini which wasn't made to have its internal drives easily swapped, it would be a huge friggin boost.

A good friend of mine and myself are planning an extended trip to Antarctica in one year's time. This Christmas was all about the gear I bought a few pieces to start and ended up spending a little over 2k. A polor parka, Patagonia fleece jacket, base core suit, boots and inner/outer gloves.

Hahahaha wow....that's pretty hardcore. You must be actually staying on the continent? Where and for how long?
I'd love to visit someday. It's always been a dream of mine of snowboard in some remote areas of the world. I've checked off a few, but Greenland, Baffin Island and Antarctica are still on my list.
