Many a time when exploiting my iBook's portability and using it outside, I face a lot of difficulty because LCD screens appear much dimmer in sunlight or other really bright light. Sometimes I can find a shady spot, but it usually doesn't make too much of a difference. As a result, I pose the following question:

What are some ways to help the screen's brightness/ visibility/ readability in sunlight or other bright light situations?

You might want to try a pair of good polarised sunglasses. The other thing you might want to do is make a seperate monitor profile that is brighter than you usually like to be used in under the sun.

I have tried all varieties of monitor profiles and not one seems to make much difference in visibility on a sunny day.

I have a large yard with many trees (an acre) and I just seek out the most shady spots.

Also if I tilt the screen toward me it seems to help some.

One thing you may want to try (I think I will once I get my iBook) is to make a little hood for the 'Book, similar to those on LaCie's ElectronBlue monitors - of course, a hood sticking way out would stop you from closing and carrying the book, but it may provide enough shade for the LCD to make it more usable, if you're at the right angle to the sun.
If you do make a shade, let me see it, I'd like to have an idea for making one
