The fully integrated X desktop that Tenon is working on sounds very interesting. I can't wait to get my hands on both the OS X beta and Tenon beta. I also wonder what the pricing structure will be like (I hear rumblings of a $500 plus price tag). I'm sure they are going to try to make it compelling for a large audience to purchase.

I doubt it. Most people interested in this will be those wanting to use X server remotely I bet. I don't know a single X app I'd want to use with OS X if it's still an X app, better to port the good apps and discard the rest.
That being said you can run XFree86 4 in OS X now, you just can't use it with Quartz at the same time. Perhaps use X server on one monitor and Quartz on the other.

On the contrary; I've been using MachTen (also from Tenon) for several years as a Unix-on-Mac application that allows me to run several apps on my machine (initially a 7100, then a StarMax, now a PB1999).
In particular, I'm using LaTeX (mathematical typesetting language), xfig (macdraw like program for use with LaTeX), octave (a GPL'd program similar in most respects to MATLAB), and gnuplot. If any of these are missing, I don't get my work done. On the flip-side, I also use my machine as an x-terminal when working on mainframes at work.
I can't speak for "most users;" but given the Darwin underside of MacOS X it would be a disappointment for me to see x-apps being required to run remotely and not on my machine itself.

Thanks I am going to try and get darwin to run on a 604 clone tonight and now I might try adding X-windows. Sounds like fun to me...
