Hi, I have a lead on a working beocenter 7700 system, with the speakers, very clean. Only issue is it needs a new cartridge for the turntable. I checked ebay, and holy CRAP! Why are cartridges so expensive for this system? I would like to pick up this system, but I can't justify spending $100 on a freakin cartridge.... what the hell! And do they make any that 'adapt' to fit B&O gear? ie, DO I HAVE to buy name brand stuff? Or is their some company that sells some that are 'compatible' with B&O turntables???

I'm hoping analogika can help me out with this question....

Beoworld might be able to help you out a little. I've really been looking hard at some B&O gear myself...it's a little harder to find up here in Canada, but I noticed decent 4000-5000-series systems turning up now and again. I've heard good things, but yeah, parts aren't cheap from what I'm told. Plus, the Rega P5 is calling my name so loudly....

B&O system look stylish but the technology inside is usually really dated. Not to mention they don't sound that great for the outrageous costs and the usability on many of the products is rather poor.

You're talking about buying Bang & Olufsen, a company which some people actually consider "high-end" (much like some people consider Bose high-quality), then ask this forum for advice, and then have the nerve to call HIM gullible for buying a ClearAudio cartridge???

...

No, seriously:

I DUNNO, B&O is not very good or accurate, but you're getting it because it's pretty or something, and that cheap older stuff is full of no longer produced components, but you are a chump for that sort of stuff.

But it's not a MacNN audio thread without Doofy and G4ME disagreeing with everything Rob says.

I saw this infomercial about how Bose is really awesome, plus it looks really cool. I think I'm going to get their surround sound system.

1. I don't own it yet.

2. I don't own it yet.

3. I don't own it yet.

People are ****ing retarded.

And yeah, I think a complete Beocenter 7700 with the fancy pants B&0 fullsize speakers for UNDER $50 is a good deal, don't you? It does need a cartridge though, which makes me hesistant. I think it would be a perfect bedroom stereo.

I have an old B&O turntable I bought for $50 back in the late 80's- looks cool, it plays records.

A rep at a B&O retail sore gave me the name of a company you could buy cartridges from, but I can't remember the name- you might try giving a store a call- it was the one in Tysons Corner Virginia that gave me the info.

B&O looks pretty, sounds ok. We've got a B&O as a kitchen stereo and it's fine, but not great. If you're getting it for under $50 just spring for the cartridge and be done with it.

This is a lot of drama over components that most people can't tell don't reproduce 100% of precisely what was recorded. And the recording that will be played over these components? From a CD? From an MP3?

I would not buy a Ferrari to drive to the supermarket. I would not buy the "bestest and baddest" of any audio system to put in an existing structure not built with acoustics and sound reproduction in mind. So B&O is dated; there's merit in "established technology." So what? I have yet to hear of B&O products turning to dust because they were "outdated".

I will agree that if the whole setup costs so little that a new cartridge for the tonearm would be a logical addition.

Ok, not hear this. This is an OFFICIAL STATEMENT: A whole lot of this thread sounds like bashing for the sake of bashing. That is unacceptable. It is not light hearted, it is not jesting, it is not among people treating each other as equals. It WILL stop.

B&O no longer produce cartridges for my turntable. Based on the design of the one Rob is looking at I'm betting his may no longer be available form B&O either. The slaes guy pointed me to a store that sold what he deemed inexpensive replacement cartridges. Now it's possible that becasue of where he works, his concept of inexpensive is skewed.

Well, that's your problem, isn't it.

You probably wouldn't ever take anybody seriously who spends $1200 on a microphone pre-amp, either.

But that's just 'cuz you're clueless.

Per-channel, of course.

I only had one piece of Behringer equipment in the audio chain, ever.* I GAVE the ****er away. Yes, it was my first mixer.

(*Actually, somebody just recently gave me a Behringer de-noiser/expander for free. Black-face with red silkscreen. Still designed by the man himself and built in Europe. Supposedly the Behringer stuff of that era is actually pretty good in the sense that it has character (flakiness is not a character trait ). We'll see.)

Heh. I'm currently speccing a new project studio (small but lovely). Got some dweeb I know keeps banging on about how I should buy some Behringer stuff because "they're OK". Amount of times I've told him "No, I'm buying some proper gear" and he still comes back with the same comments is unreal. Source of much amusement, much like these threads.

Why should simple expenditure levels dictate whether someone should be taken seriously about something or not? You could spend that $1200 on a crap preamp, or $300 on a really good one that fits your needs well. Cost basis is a stupid criterion-does the equipment fit the application would be a better criterion.

And suggesting that someone is clueless because they don't agree with you is not appropriate behavior.

Thats OK.. I NEVER take YOU seriously.

Your other audio statements have verified your lack of experience in actually listening.

I'll bet you've never even HEARD a ClearAudio Cart before. I doubt you hear well at all.
