When I select multiple images and open them in preview, they are not in perfect alphabetical order. It only started happening recently, and it's possible I accidentally changed some settings.
Things I've tried:
* Logging out.
* Restarting.
* Changing folder preferences to "arrange by name".
There is nothing about the order in which images are opened in Viewer preferences.
Please help.

Open all the images and then right click in the thumbnail drawer. Click name to sort by name.

I've experienced the same issue with the Finder Slideshow. I noticed it appears whenever you select a bunch of files and one or several of them are not actually graphics files (like when among the 12 files I had selected one was a pdf rather than a png).

I think this has to do with the location of the files in the HD, could this be true? (ie: some problem due to fragmentation)

I'm sure that has nothing to do with it. The Finder doesn't need to know the physical location of the files, and certainly wouldn't go out of its way to find out just to determine sort order.
The OS X Finder just doesn't respect sort order when opening items. I remember people bitching about this since the original switch from OS 9 (which did respect sort order when opening).

thanks for clearing that
Does anyone know of a permanent way (preference or something) to set the sort order in preview for every pic you open?
