I walked into CompUSA today and my good friend who happens to run the Mac section told me that they aren't getting anymore Cinema Displays in. This happened a few weeks ago when the new iMacs came out (about a week before hand) and when the MBPs came out (the last update). I think it's safe to say that we should see them within the month.

As long as the 20" doesn't miraculously downgrade to a TN panel, and the displays remain matte-coated, I might find myself in the market

Ah, well, there's the rub: Whether 'tis nobler to have glossy and TN? Do I discern a trend in the stars in recent product introductions in that direction?

I doubt that they would decide to make the ACDs glossy, the demand for matt(e) external displays is too great. But an option would be good!!!

These are so overdue a refresh. I bought my 20" alumimum display the minute Apple released them and, while it's served me well, it's time to go bigger -- and it MUST have built-in iSight, surely?

I don't see why built-in iSight would be necessary on an external display. I would much rather Apple bring back the stand-alone external iSight that I could buy separately, if I need it.

Feature-wise, the current displays are fine. I'm not sure what more Apple can do with them. A built-in iSight doesn't make sense unless it was optional. What they really need to do is lower the prices.

I'm with you Spencer, I'd love to get a second 20 incher for my G5.
I miss the days of the G5 and XPS Pentium 4 running side by side as high-end machines.

How 'bout 5 iMac themed (but with a matte option) displays, a 20" and 23" with a iSight and a 20", 23". and 30" without a iSight.

Dell releases a 20" with integrated webcam Sept 12, HP releases a new rotatable (landscape/portrait) 24" sometime soon... it's LCD refresh season, Apple can't be far behind.

1080p with HDMI perhaps?

I wonder how long it'll be until they invent some sort of wireless video interface to replace DVI etc.

How about a monitor that I can actually adjust rather than just tilt? I'd love to replace my Dell with a cinema display, but I need my monitor to be able to tilt, pivot, and have height and rotation adjustment as well.

if you've read the article about the new greener apple, you would have known that the new displays are going to LED back lit and are probably going to be cheaper, the new imacs are probably a good example of what's to come!

Trouble is, if the new Cinema Display looks like that it won't match either the MB, MBP, Mini or the Mac Pro.

The only thing it will match is the iMac, which already has a screen. Oh and the iPhone/iPhoneless devices, but there not important.

What has prevented me from buying a Cinema Display is the lack of an iSight camera. Please Apple, include this in the new Display, and I will buy one, promise!

Well said, that man! (or woman....). I know there are those who say an isight can be added as matter of choice but I don't want a big ugly wart sitting on top of my bee-ooo-ti-foool streamlined sleek and sexy Apple display. I want one discreetly positioned in the surround, just like it is in my MBP lid and my daugher's iMac. Please.....

Since Front Row is included in Leopard, do you guys think it would make sense to include an IR receiver in the new displays? Perhaps throw in a remote?

It would be nice, but it wouldn't kill me if they don't. If it bothers you too much, you can always buy third party.

I thought about ACD with an iSight camera built-in, but more and more people are buying MBP/MB now. It would be a waste, right?

Indeed, my 20" was bought the moment it came out (2004?) so it's about time they come with a new series.
My iSight once broke down badly, I was able to remove the white lid that can close it, but why they silently discontinued the iSight is unclear to me.
The new ACD should have an iSight build in, even for pro's it can be handy now and then, I mean even my MacBook Pro has an iSight.

I'll buy one when iSight is build in, promise! (you see, they are already sure they'll sell 3)

I like that mock-up (as long as they aren't glossy!), but I've got a feel ing that the next revision of Cinema Displays will have a thiner bezel, thinner than the current displays. Apple made a point to emphasize that when the then new aluminum displays were first introduced, comparing them to the previous displays. Personally, I prefer an all metal enclosure, with no built in webcam...

It becomes a waste and an unnecessary expense if you have a set-up with more than one display, but you only use one webcam... I can imagine some cool things could be done with iChat and multiple webcams from multiple angles, but I don't believe too many people would ever take advantage of that. However the more I look at the current landscape, the more I am inclined to believe that the next displays will have built-in webcams. But I hope not.

I hope they bring out new displays soon i have been waiting for ages. I still have got a 17' Studio Display with an ADC!!

I would imagine the new displays will be LED backlit, with a IR port for Front Row (as the Mac Pros don't have a IR port). I don't care that much for a built-in iSight and i can see that causing problems too. As there are offices where camera equipment isn't allowed. Therefore a web-cam is a no no. Even if it is disabled, organisations won't take the chance. Therefore this would exclude Apple displays.

I thought they would bring new displays out at the Euro Mac Expo but i guess not.
