I'm just reminiscing about all of the time I've spent here and all of the people I've seen come and go, and all of the event highlights that would make my highlight reel....
I'd love to hear about some of your most memorable threads or events, people that have come and gone, etc. Let's walk down memory lane...
I remember Cody Dawg, WDLove, Cubeoid, all of the Star Wars names, tooki, Zimphire, the original Rickey Henderson guy, and many other MacNN celebrities that have come and gone that I've lost track of. I remember that guy committing suicide, all of the Abe/Mojo2/Marden threads, the whole triangle thing, the secret 10.0 build, Cody Dawg's threads, the birth of Fuzzy Wombat, the redesign, all of stuff Rob did (solo work and work with Kevin), and many other moments in MacNN history - some good, some bad...
So, what are some of your favorite memories and/or retired posters?

COOL MEMBERS - maxelson - The teacher from Massachusetts who would have kitchen-recipe duels with Mastrap. (This is like 2000-2002)
- Voyageur - She was like a female Glenn: smart, reasonable, logical, knowledgeable on a lot of subjects, and generally all-around pleasant. (plus really pretty)
- Demonhood - for his locks involving "The Burninator". (I used to think he was one of the artists behind Homestar Runner.)
- WDLove - a nice, pleasant chap. (before he got all icky-friendly with Cody Dawg)
- The Chris guys - a couple guys from Texas (named Chris) who had smarts, sarcasm, and a decidedly liberal point of view.
- MikeMxx - xx was a changing number and he was pretty entertaining with his posts but then he left to go into detox (?) and clean up his life. A few years back someone looked up him and he was still in Jersey but sober (if I remember correctly).
- Face Ache - He is still here but not nearly as active as he used to be. Wicked, wicked sense of humor.
- Salty - For pure entertainment value.
- SimeytheLimey - He and I both lived in DC--I think he is there still--and he would argue the finer points of law with everyone. He loved to "trap" people in logical discussions using his extensive knowledge of the law. Became a lot more smarmy and annoying as the years progressed but he was always an interesting and intelligent poster.
- Mindfad - for his great Photoshop skills and snarky sense of humor.
- Spliffdaddy - Because . . . just because.
MEMORABLE THREADS (for good and bad reasons) - The Cody-Dawg "Save Terri Schiavo" thread - I think that was the first/only thread that hit 20 pages in less than 24 hours.
- The days of "Damn Bill Gates . . . " and "All Your Base".
- The llama wars.
- The image caption threads with Olympic gymnast-girl.
- Any number of war threads where the debate was civil albeit impassioned. (Those days were a l-o-n-g time ago.)
- The days of the forum re-design and all the discussions about layout, colors, stars (types and colors), and signatures.

My all-time favorite MacNN thread was the one that confirmed that Apple was switching to Intel. The panic in that thread was so funny to me. I sometimes go back to and read it for fun.

Heh, this thread made me go look through some old posts. I found Foreign Agents influencing our elections, jihadists hiding among us, and some of Islam's Best Soldiers.
And Youppi!

Most of the above are still around and in touch with each other. Just not here.
I remember the epic thread of the prolapsed anus and the 16th chapel. Those were the threads that made internet lore.

I've actually been around since 2001, like you. In the last 6 months or so I haven't visited as often as in the past, so I have some questions:
Is Kevin gone?
Is Cody Dawg still secretly posting under that new screenname of hers?
Is Cash gone?
Is Salty gone?
As for some of my favorite moments, I remember that time when everyone was freaking out over the guy who would post comments on the NN main page containing the words "RIPE" and "3-5" (or something like that.
I also liked the time Cash got reported to the Secret Service.. and that time when he got into a huge fight over whether or not a gameboy could cause a plane to crash.
All those threads started by SuperChicken/Salty/David about how much he hated gays were funny, so were the several threads where he came out of the closet and then quickly backtracked and said it was a joke, culminating in an actual "coming out" thread, after which it was revealed that he was fired from his position as youth minister for having downloaded tons of gay porn on the church computer.
Those were the days..

What about powerbookdude? Didn't we drive him to be nearly suicidal?
(Or was that the same person as Salty/Superchic[k]en?)

Kevin = Zimphire. Not gone.
Cody Dawg is still around, but I won't post her new handle.
Ca$h is never truly gone.
Salty is still around too.

He'll be back. Once he lives out his ban. Always does.

I remember them all. The good, the bad, the name calling. I'm feeling my age now, especially since a lot of the members have names I don't recognize anymore.

I know what Cody's handle is. Kevin was banned and I was wondering why/where he went.

Yup. This place has changed a lot in the 10 years I've been coming here. Didn't register for the forums until 2001, but I'd posted a few times starting in 1999, back when they allowed non-registered users to post. A few were under my real name, which I won't post here any more. My name is too unique and easily googled, and being a small-town doctor I can't risk any bad stuff being linked to it.

I fondly remember maxelson, wdlove, Codydawg, MindFad, FaceAche (still around every now and then) - even Cash was fun.
There were a few I didn't really care for that are also gone, either their forum persona or whatever, seems childish now.
But the years roll by!
It's been lotsa fun - those pics of the gymnast with the shark & lens flare.. the "Arguing on the internet is like winning the special olympics" pics. Good times, good times. And I think there was a one with cheese too, lotsa cheese.

The most bizarre poster would have to be Todd P. (rhymes with Cartridge) and his $e@Rch1!ghT secks cu1t. (had to disguise it so it doesn't get added to teh Googleverse).

I've taken a few small vacations from the NN. This must have happened during one of those as I don't recall any of that.

What do you guys think about inviting all of the MacNN veterans back for a little reunion? I'm curious as to what happened to many of these dudes.

LOL! A MacNN reunion!
Of course, a few people wouldn't be able to make it, unless we tried to meet IRL.

I remember when bstone first introduced me to macnn back in highschool. I didn't register or post until years later when I was in college. Now, I've met a few of you IRL and actually miss reading the posts of some of the old timers.
I can't remember which at the moment, but I thought cody or wdlove was hit by some hurricane in florida, if that was you and you are posting under a new name, Hi!
Even my wife gets some of the jokes around here.

I wonder what the very first argument MacNN, ban, picture, etc. was. Are there records of all of these firsts?

Because she was getting a lot of flak for all her posting style.

So she doesn't catch flak for doing all thing she used to do before. In essence, we will give a new user more slack for posting celebrity threads, and knee jerking to popular news items, and whatever else it was people didn't like, than her. Eventually the cat will be out of the bag, though, and I'm curious how things will go then. Mild, I suspect, since it seems like a good portion of the forum knows who she is.
