I can't believe I ended up right about John Cho playing Sulu.

Teaser is the key word here. I'm excited about it, but the teaser offered nothing

That is pretty funny stuff. I would have to agree with the "offers nothing" statement.

Last couple have sucked. Hope this one is better.
But I am leaving the theater if we see the smoke monster.

Unfortunately the name "J.J. Abrams" means it will probably suck on ice.

alas, I remain unteased.

I agree. In order to be adequately teased, I need 1) to know which hawt woman will play the requisite Space Babe and 2) a picture of the impossible tight and/or skimpy outfit she will be wearing.

Too many question marks...
Simon Pegg as Scotty? Really? I loved Shaun of the Dead, but c'mon...
John Cho? Is he going to play a stoned version of Sulu?
Chris Pine seems okay to be Kirk for me. As for Zachary Quinto...I think he'll do fine, but it'll take a long time for me to quit thinking "Sylar."

I'm a huge Star Trek fan. Just think that teaser stinks -- it doesn't show anything that teases.

It shows quite a lot. The construction of the Enterprise by people and not machines, showing how much work went into the ship. The fact that it was built in San Francisco. Its importance (in that world) to going into space.
Over 2500 people on trekmovie.com got chills watching it. I dunno.....

Again -- for me -- that's not a teaser. Just a couple CGI clips thrown together.

Got the chills too.
I'm a huge Star Trek fan, but I think that was more a response to the use of the famous sound bytes.
I'm thinking J.J. said something along the lines of "what if we tried to go for the sort of juxtaposition between real space travel and fake space travel they were going for at the beginning of Enterprise... only have it not suck."

I like Star Trek, but I don't love Star Trek. So, for me, the original series was the most fun, while most of the spin-off series have been plain awful. However, if the new movie is any good I will go see it for the run of it.

Yeah i kind of lost interest when "Deep Space Nine" came out. Those spin offs were not pure "Star Trek" in my opinion.

I thought TNG was great, but that wasn't really pure "Star Trek" either.
For the real inheritor of the mantle of pure "Star Trek", I nominate Firefly.

Really? Never understood what people saw in Firefly.
My favorite of the follow on series was Enterprise. At least it had somewhat real people with feelings and problems, instead of perfect androids with no hair.

Well, at the least, it fulfills Rodenberry's one sentence descriptor for TOS: wagon train to the stars.

For me the writing was awful, but then I've never been a Wheadon fan.

Yeah, stupid, but I thought the series was fun. Actually, that's probably what I liked about it. The original series was fun. Most of the new series seemed to have an atmosphere somewhere between tax audit and funeral home.

That YouTube link makes it hard to even look at. For this far out, that's a lot of work to have done for a teaser, so I'm thinking that it's real material-assembling Enterprise in orbit really is cool. I just wish I could find the HD version so I could have a clue.
And remember the first teaser for Transformers? It was nasty-but it got people stoked for the movie. And the movie made lots and lots of money... So this seems to be a "pre-teaser" trailer right now. I'm going to bide my time.

I haven't seen a prequel yet that I like. While I'm thankful that Star Trek is coming back ... I'd prefer they went in a different direction.

They say they are. It sounds like it is going to be what Enterprise was SUPPOSED to be. Which was to fill in the gaps of the past in an old school sort of way.
Instead Enterprise went for a ship which looked like it was made with todays technology with a star trek foundation to it. Didn't work out so well as it just looked bland. Not to mention they ****ed up the continuity big time and did the same bag of time travel tricks as all treks have.
What they should have done is made it more retro and 70's like they SOMETIMES did with T'Pal's outfits.
So hopefully in this new trek some of the uniforms are miniskirts and the doors are big and red and boxy.
I still wish they had taken a couple more years break though.

In the first season of TNG, they had extras in the background wearing miniskirts... but they were dudes.
Now that's the future.

I meant a different direction other than the direction that they appear to be headed. (Sorry for the confusion)
Also: Kirk wasn't the first Captain of the Enterprise. So ... why are they building it now? Are we going to have Captain Pike instead of Kirk?

I skip *EVERYTHING* in the cinema now. I went to a maintanee with my kids and wife. After everything was done the bill was over $70. That's too much.
With options such as PPV, DVD, etc. It just doesn't make sense to spend that much money. I'll wait for video release.
