I recall a thread here in MacNN where people was wondering which was the ugliest car on the road nowadays, the Multipla got a bunch of mentions for a good reason…
caption…
- hey Lindsay, why is the rear view mirror in Paris' car on autodim mode constantly?
- to do you a favor… :-P

It wasn't too hard to find a picture of, even though I couldn't recall what the thing was called. I just googled "ugliest cars of all time" and it came upon the first page.

There's something about that car that took me fifteen minutes to get over when I first saw one in person, years ago. Sometimes, images don't do a car justice, and this is one of those times. IRL, it's not just ugly, it's *hideous*.
You don't recall the pontiac aztek?

Actually, I do, but since I've thankfully never, EVER seen one in person (I don't think anybody ever tried to sell them over here), the Aztec wasn't in the running.

Speaking of ugly cars, did anyone see that moron yesterday at the Barret Jackson Auction pay $150k for that 2007 Shelby Mustang? I ask why, why??? Then he turned around and spent 5 MILLION on that blue Shelby Cobra Supersnake. Which is a sweet car.

Yeah, it was a Shelby GT 2007. I didn't see it being a KR or anything, but I could be wrong. I think the vin was 001. Still about 120k too much for the 2007. Now if it was a 67 or 68, I could see it. But I hate the new design of the Mustang. It's horrible.

Fact: Nothing is going to make 620HP feel "comfortable" in the rain.
(how much HP did this Ferrari have in the test? No more than 400 I bet, with a very weak torque curve(easy non-agressive rain driving).
Watch a sportscar race on television. The Corvettes that are beating the Ferraris don't all-of-a-sudden spin out when the rains come down. No, they put on the rain tires like everyone else, and keep racing. It's just, they usually win.
You should have picked on solid-axle Mustangs or Camaros, still, I'd have a few easy mods for ya to get those things to drive real nice in the rain too!
"The verdict"?? You don't know jack.
Damn you and your "logic." I am in posession of the truthiness and thus my post is the word and law. Now kneel before me and kiss my feet. Then buy me a Ferrari so I can drive it at 65 and wave at the nice police officers on the freeway.

you know that was the B-J auction from a year ago, right? that would have been the first shelby GT around (basically the same package you can rent from hertz, but with an optional stick.)
probably had something to do with charity, that's how the first plain-jane GT convertible went off the block a couple of years ago.

This was in 2006 I believe, the first Shelby GT500 off the assembly line:
Sometime in 2007, they also auctioned off a Shelby GT or Hertz GT(or both), both were vin #1 I think and they both fetched over $150,000 which went to a charity.

The new Challenger may be short lived.
It's been rumored, since Cerberus took over, that Chrysler will due some heavy brand-refocusing. And as far as Dodge is concerned, that refocusing is rumored to involve centering the brand entirely on trucks and SUVs.
And there's every reason to believe it's happening too; It sounds like the Viper is dead. The Avenger was a half assed effort if I ever saw one and there's practically zero news on any replacement for it being in the works. And not only is the Charger long in the tooth, but if the words coming out of Chrysler are to be believed, its next revamp isn't due until the 2011 model year.
A shame.

I tell ya, I'm REALLY liking the new Pontiac G8 GT. This is a very nice looking sedan. With a 6.0 V8 for around 30 grand, it's hard to go wrong with that one.

Wait till you actually sit in it! It's so beautiful. I don't care much about car interiours, especially fancy ones like Bimmers and Mercedes but when I sat in the G8 I REALLY wanted to buy one! It's as beautiful as the outside!

I think Pontiac has a damn huge hit on their hands with this one. Granted, I would love to have something like an Infinit Q45 or M45, or something like the Mercedes E500 or the C63 AMG, but those are out of my price range. Now the G8 GT is something I could consider.

Talking of fast cars. Just very much enjoyed this weeks (in hte UK - sorry) Top Gear. Now I know that TG can be a tad harsh on our American cousins and their car building skilzors but they did give a fair play to a road trip from San Francisco to Bonneville Salt flats in a Corvette ZR-1, Dodge challenger and a Cadillac (something). Anyway, surprisingly all the cars faired pretty well. The corvette was the star but the dodge looked the biz although it didn't really handle like the others.
The 'vette even managed a top speed of 176 at the flats, not bad at all. Not sure if you can easily access from the US on watch again but well worth it.

It was a Caddy CTS-V. 176 isn't even moving for the ZR1, the standard Vette will do that (top ZR1 speed is 205).

True, just that going so fast in a short distance on the salt flats is a tough test.
CTS-V did 160+ and the Challenger hit 150+. The Challenger is a beast of a car and that's bookin'. For the record, these are not their top speeds. Just what they hit in a standing mile on the salt flats.
CTS-V is an animal.
ZR1 is a crazy animal.

After watching Top Gear, I have zero respect for Chevy's craftsmanship. However, the car is still fast.
But... plastic? I just can't take any Corvette serious again.
Of course, my dreams were shattered when they reviewed the Challenger, as well.

Plastic Corvette. That was just funny.
Apparently they are real air scoops, but it's an $80 upgrade. Otherwise they're just plugs. I bet he could 've hit his 150 a lot easier if he'd shelled out the extra $80. The way they were joking about it (and how Chrysler refused to sell them one ) they didn't know about it.) You can also get an overhead air ram for it, which is what I would love to see. One with the flippers on it, I love seeing them toggle when you hit the gas. It's just so awesome.
I am NOT a car buff, but I've just absolutely fell in love with the Challenger. Since I'm not a car guy and I could never take care of a real muscle car, it's nice to see that there are options out there for tards like me.

Basing your opinion of a car on something Jeremy Clark says about it might not be the best idea.

I seem to remember that he was impressed with it's performance, he was simply disappointed with the interior. I agree with him, compared to other cars in it's class it does feel cheap and uninspiring.
In power and handling, though, it offers amazing bang for your buck.

Interior's still made from materials that make your average box of LEGO look & feel like the finest of calf leathers. Why anyone would spend a hundred grand on a car made by a company that can't even approach the level of craftsmanship of a 1972 Lada is beyond me. Verdict: Hillbilly jewelry.
If I wanted a really fast car, I'd call one of the good folks at Gumpert (or Zonda, or Koenigsegg, or Ascari, or Gemballa ... anyone but Chevrolet, really).

Gemballas and Zondas are not $100,000 though!
Comparing the interior of a 2009 Vette to LEGOs or the craftsmanship of the car to a 1972 anything just shows you either *hate* Chevy/Corvettes in general, or you've never really got to have a ride in a Z06/ZR1.
Oh, and you can get almost 9/10 of the performance of the ZR1 by buying the Z06 for $72,000, and they both do 200 MPH and they both get 24+MPG on the highway.
Ultra high performance for less than anyone. Oh, and the interior isn't quilted suede.
I don't know any hillbillies. I also doubt one could actually afford a Z06, let alone a ZR1.

I'll submit, for your consideration:
FFR GTM. $20,000 + Vette parts + build it yourself
2350lbs, 0-60 in 3.0 seconds
Noble M400. ~$90,000
2400lbs, 0-60 in about 3.2 seconds, twin-turbo Ford Duratec 3.0

My point precisely - you can't have both, artisan craftsmanship and Woolworth prices. Everybody places importance on different aspects when purchasing any item, of course, and that's a good thing. But if a hundred grand were all I had to spend, I'd rather have a well crafted, slow(er) car than one that's fast but shoddily built. Were I hell-bent on getting a super fast car and didn't have enough money for a "real" one, I'd rather keep saving until my funds were sufficient, but that's just me.

I'd never buy a Chevy (the way they're built atm, that is) but I certainly don't hate them - they're always good for a cheap chuckle. And while I haven't gotten to ride in one, I had the opportunity to sit in a new Z-something Corvette a few days back when I took the wife's lil' sister to the dealership.
Like I said, hillbilly bling.
If it at least had character like a Dodge Viper, for example ... it too is crappily built hillbilly bling, but it's a sh!tkicker rocket that oozes character. I'd never buy one, but I do approve, loads.

As stated above, I don't do "9/10" - I can either afford the real thing, or I'll keep saving until I can.

If that's what I were after I'd already own an Ariel Atom 3 (or maybe wait for this one), eats any Corvette for lunch where acceleration is concerned.

No no, don't get me wrong. It's a great ride. It's just the comparisons they made, and it wasn't just Jeremy. All three of them were poking fun at the plastic shell. I mean, geeze, the Challenger had fake fiber panted on its hood.
They all three agreed in the end they were great cars, but they couldn't get past the plastic on the Corvette. Besides that part, the Corvette is an awesome car.

In power and handling, though, it offers amazing bang for your buck.
That's what I was getting at. Ferrari has a glass window on the hood so you can see the craftsmanship of the hand-built engine. Corvette has a window on the hood so you can see a plastic sheet covering the engine that says Corvette on it.
