So, having tired of the last.fm client’s shoddy iPod updating (especially since I now have two iPods), I decided to give this one a try.
Apparently, though, I’ve just lost all my Touch scrobbles because I played a few songs in iTunes before I plugged in and synced the iPod? Well, that sucks.
And multiple plays (of the same track) are only supported in automatic mode? Well, that sort of sucks for the Shuffle, since that one is by definition manual and also far more likely to get multiple plays.

Dunno about Audioscrobbler, but neither the official last.fm client nor iScrobbler does that. Or at least iScrobbler doesn’t; in the official client, you can choose whether or not you want the splash screen, if I recall correctly.

sorry Audioscrobbler is last.fm's old name, i think they some times call the client Audioscrobbler and the network last.fm and it does...... and the only options are to take it out of the doc and take it out of the menu bar, nothing about showing window on launch... whats this iscrobbler then?

Oh, you’re right, so it does! I’d just never noticed before, ’cause it hides it behind everything else.
There’s a link to iScrobbler in Erik’s post that I quoted above. It’s a very similar app, really, just more customisable in some ways.

So far I’m not impressed with iScrobbler’s stability, I have to admit. Sure, it scrobbled my Shuffle [damn, that sounds like a dirty sex act], but it seems to be also randomly scrobbling and then subsequently unscrobbling what I listen to. Or is that last.fm itself?
Case in point: I’ve listened to about 15 or so songs today. Earlier today, when that number was a bit lower, I could see the first eight or ten (or whatever) songs scrobbled after the Shuffle’s plays had been scrobbled. Now, however, no scrobbles appear after the Shuffle scrobbles, except the song currently playing.
Edit: Oh, it says it has 15 songs queued (“Oró” is from last night):
Well, scrobble them, then! The icon is not red (it was for a while this morning, but then became black again).

are you going to be desperately upset if your last.fm account is a little bit out (this is mainly regarding using the last.fm app) i mean ive been a member for years and i went like a year and a half with out a client installed, not the end of the world. think more about when you end up with 200,000 plays, so if its missed a weeks worth of songs, only a very small percentage which arent going to knock your over all charts out by much?

Not desperately upset, no; not at all. Just wondering if I’m doing something wrong, if iScrobbler isn’t working properly (probably due to my doing something wrong), or if last.fm is just having hiccoughs.

Quit iScrobbler and reopen it. I suspect your internet went wonky at some point, confusing it.

ok.... well im a little confused about the issue u were having... you found that when you scrobbeled your shuffle that is was missing songs? or it didnt scrobble them? and if u played a song multiple times it only scrobbled once? am i right? anything else?

No, all the songs from the Shuffle were scrobbled properly, it was the songs after that went wonky.
As Dakar suggested, though, a simple restart (probably the simplest, easiest, and most obvious thing to do, yet of course the one thing that never crossed my mind to try ) fixed things nicely and everything got rescrobbled properly.
But yeah, apparently multiply plays of the same song on an iPod that’s set to manual syncing will only show one play when scrobbling, which is a bit odd, but I expect some limitation within iTunes.

yer i think how it works is that when u sync it records the date and time, and then when you re sync it finds everything with a "last played" between the last and current sync date, so multiple plays would only show up once.
glad u sorted it, i havent had any problems with it other than the annoyance of the window popping up a boot (not to bigger issue as i dont boot a great deal)
and if im not mistaken you currently have on Björk – Bachelorette

Yeah I caught it. Sounds like Joe might have a case. Usually they are pretty open about ripping people off though
I have no idea what Katy Perry is doing in that list

Which is what makes it plain weird...
It's obviously pretty darn close, but I tend to think it wasn't intentional. Joe Satriani isn't exactly John Mayer (publicity-wise), but he still gets a decent amount of exposure with a small but rabid element of the populous. To rip off some no-name is one thing; to rip off someone with the stature to do something about it is another thing altogether.
I have no idea what Katy Perry is doing in that list

To be fair, if I was going to do something with Katy Perry, I'd do it 7 times too.
(Actually, I have yet to hear this infamous song, even after all these months)
Edit: And my profile remains a mess of low individual artists plays or failed attempts at finding something good and new, so no posts.

Truthfully I have only heard the original once: on an amusement park radio.
I have 18 different mashups of it though - all of which sounds better. I prefer the one with Bloc Party's Helicopter myself.

It actually has one of the catchiest hooks I've ever heard. It sticks in your head and won't leave. Ever.
I'm sure you can figure out how Uptight Christian Boy™ feels about the song itself, but there's no need to go into that.

on the subject of Katy Perry, my house mate found this cover:
I Kissed A Girl - Attack Attack!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bossZD6gpxI
now for full effect you have to listen to the whole song, no skipping, just put it on in the background, got a funny feeling this might not be to a lot of peoples taste but at least try it

I was thinking of you when I posted that. ("Calling Jawbone!")
I love Ryan Adams. He's definitely one of my favorite more recent artists, up there with Kanye, Jack White, Sufjan, Ted Leo, Damon Albarn, M.I.A., Leslie Feist, and James Mercer of The Shins. I won't lie: "Gold" is probably my favorite Ryan Adams record. To me it's like Neil Young's "Harvest," his most accessible, middle of the road album. But I mean I love all the others too (Rock N Roll and Demolition less so), including his Whiskeytown stuff! What's your favorite?

I've always leaned more towards Gold too. I listened to plenty of Easy Tiger and Love is Hell, but I lost a lot of my music two or three years ago in a catastrophic iPod/iTunes disaster. Right now I only have various tracks of Ryan Adams, and not a ton of full albums. I have Gold, Follow the Lights, and Cardinology, then scattered single tracks (one of my favorite being "Strawberry Wine" - my wife and friends hate the song, but I've always been stuck on it for whatever reason).
I haven't spent enough time with Cardinology to see how I'm going to rank it, but I'm enjoying it so far. I picked it up last week.
