about two months ago thanks to a post at daringfireball I finally heard about notational velocity - see:
http://notational.net/

a spectacular note taking program that even predates my mac days...

i changed the icon (which is horrifying) and then after that it was single handedly the most significant app i had found on my mac since quicksilver.

now i just upgraded to snow leopard and without rosetta I am in the cold. I could install rosetta. but it seems a waste to install just for one app - even if it is my favorite.

i would prefer a cocoa version... is there anyone out there as obsessed with me that actually has the time and programming skills to throw the thing together. i'm thinking an afternoon to a seasoned developer. and given all the talk on dfb and minimalmac i can almost assure you that you'd have a market. dont think just do.

HELP!

(alternatively I'd take a suggestion for an app that could replace it... - or simplenote could be ported from iphone to mac... i'm really open to anything).

Dude, install Rosetta, and be done with it.

I really don't understand why you would stop using your most important app, just because you are too lazy to install Rosetta ?

Btw, you should give Evernote a serious look. Full text search, PDF indexing, tags. free syncing etc...

You don't want to waste the one minute and 3 MB it takes to install Rosetta but you want somebody else to waste "an afternoon" recreating an app that already works just fine? Dude.

My argument is that in an afternoon someone could recreate the thing. It would be faster slicker and they could probably make some good money on the thing in no time.

Does Rosetta really only take 3mb? Man.

May be my only viable option. I'd still pay for a cocoa version

I like how you think the application is somehow not Cocoa. Also, I wonder if the author might have a newer version? Nah, can't be.

My point is that making software is almost never as quick as you'd guess. Things look simple when you don't have to deal with all the details yourself, but in practice, that afternoon stretches out for anywhere from a couple of weeks to several months. All that just to duplicate an app that already works fine? So not worth it.

You can not even search for two keywords.

I don't see what's so great about it, other than the minimalism.

i need fast text - plain text

instead of force quitting textedit everyday so my documents reload on launch this changed my life. it seriously is the best thing since quicksilver.
say what you will

i'm still looking to a middle man between anxiety and actiontastic too... but i'll keep my fussing to nv for now... i friggin love this thing. i did go ahead and install rosetta by the way.
with all the love ya'll gave me. there was little other option i suppose.

still slow on a warm start tho.
update me. (so sad my three favorite mac apps are no longer being developed. QS - QSB has a long way to go to catch up. actiontastic, and this.) whats up with these things?

It means the dude never bothered to release the universal version.

I do not understand what would be so performance-critical about a simple note-taking app that would make it problematic problematic to run in Rosetta.

Ticking sound coming from a .pkg package? Don't let the .bom go off! Inspect it first with Pacifist. Macworld - five mice!

the issues I was having was more that it took about 5 seconds for a warm startup. That is, if the app hadn't been used in a while and then i switched to it (however I switched to it) it took a long time to come to the forefront and be ready to be used... once it was focused it worked great.

this app is 100% worth looking at if you haven't already.
makes me so very very very very very (insert a few more thousand verys here) happy
