I agree, that's f***ed up.
Can we agree that the Reps are pro rape, and the Dems pro tax evasion for their own party members ?

What's funny (actually sad) is that in some countries, tax evasion is sometimes considered far more serious than rape. E.g. Germany.
Personally, I think it's f***ed up, but there's a reason: the governments are personally threatened much more by tax evasion than by rape.

What a disingenuous thread-starting post.
The problem is that the amendment mentions Halliburton/KBR and nobody else. It's like passing a food safety bill that only mentions McDonald's in the legislation. "S. AMD 9696: It's illegal for McDonald's to sell bad food... other food places, too." Why not just leave it at "all food establishments"?
While there is a subsequent catch-all that can include other contractors, it's the specific mention of one particular company in the legislation that was lame.
U.S. Senate: Legislation & Records Home > Votes > Roll Call Vote
As for rape, yes, everyone should get their day in court. I highly doubt any of the Senators would disagree with that, no matter their affiliation or list of donors.

Errrr. No. That's not a "problem". That's not at all a good reason to vote against the bill. Yes, it would be great if the bill was more general, but that still doesn't make a lick of sense as a reason to vote against the bill.

Well, except for Article 1, Section 9 of the constitution. (No bill of Attainder- that is, bills singling out an individual or group).
Funny- Dems were all down for this when it was Acorn in the line of fire- critics were correct to point it out.
Now all of a sudden, it's forgotten. Predictable.

Maybe not for you, but I wouldn't sign off on a bill that targets/names one specific company, or one specific person for that matter. The laws I would make would apply equally to all contractors - in practice and in language.
What doesn't make a lick of sense is the naming of only one company in the legislative language of the amendment.

Because they are the reason for the bill in the first place.
But the bill isn't limited to KBR and it's subsidiaries or affiliates.
It also includes "any other contracting party if such contractor or a subcontractor at any tier under such contract requires that employees or independent contractors sign mandatory arbitration clauses regarding certain claims."

And you're rebuttal is what exactly, that there isn't one specific company named, or that there isn't a subsequent catch-all that can include other contractors?
Like I stated before -- it's like passing a food safety bill that targets "McDonald's and other food resellers", when a simple, blanket "all food resellers" statement would have been plenty sufficient.

We shouldn't have any bills mentioning ACORN specifically?
Because Republicans would be so against bill mentions organizations such as ACORN.
Oh crap. Nevermind. All Republicans voted to defund ACORN with ACORN mentioned specifically.

Anyway, it didn't pass because Franken and co. are idiots.
Someone removed the above from their post, but it's true. If they had really wanted to pass reasonable/beneficial legislation they would have written it sensibly. However, it's just another case of playing politics at the expense of the people they've sworn to serve. They don't want to fix the issue with contractors, they just want to score "points". Typical.

And there goes the last semblance on intelligent debate on actual issues.
Since we're on the Hack Street now, I'm curious... how much did a self-admitted crack and cocaine user raise in his 2008 Democrat bid for the Whitehouse?

They are a better source than say FOXnews.
The bills and data on the website are provided by govtrack.us, an official government data site.
You have just shown me you are intellectually lazy.
They are real bills, not made up ones. Do some research to verify it.
Why don't you click on the link on that page that says "Official Bill Text".
Wow, I'm a f*cking genius.

You should look at the Jon Stewart link then, and listen to the part where Jeff Sessions says that if anything, we should use mediation more in these types of "disputes".
This is seriously disgusting. So far the best people can come with is that Haliburton was mentioned by name in the bill, yet 1) it also says other contractors 2) No one has presented evidence that refutes that the same republicans voting against this support bills that specifically named acorn.
This is seriously a disgusting movement for republicans.

This discussion needs some clarification. "Rape" is assumed to have actually happened, or just the accusations between unsatisfied partners, drunks, or bitter partners?

You have just shown me you are intellectually lazy.
They are real bills, not made up ones. Do some research to verify it.
Why don't you click on the link on that page that says "Official Bill Text".
Wow, I'm a f*cking genius.
Usually, when citing a source it is customary to cite the source itself, and not a comment on a commentary that somewhere links to what you were actually referencing. You would surely fail if this was submitted even to a high school teacher as a support for your arguments.
I don't really believe you comprehend what "intellectually lazy" actually means. I think maybe you're calling me lazy for not searching your sorry excuse for a source for what you actually meant to reference? So be it.

That was the first link provided by Google.
Since you were too damn lazy to even Google "H.R.3571 - Defund ACORN Act", I Googled it for you and provided you with the first result from Google.
After provide you will the link provided by google,
you are too damn lazy to even scroll up and click on the link that says "Official Bill Text".
What's next?
You want me to copy the entire bill and highlight the sections where it mentions "ACORN" cause
you are too damn lazy to read the bill?

Actually, that is exactly how you are supposed to cite it. Welcome to high school!
Its your source, you have to do the legwork on it. You can't expect others to research your claims. The burden lies on your to prove your point, of which you have so far failed miserably.
I'm still waiting on your source...properly cited.

Snow: maybe you haven't been here long enough, but the way the game is played is that once he cites his source it will be refuted as not being from a "reliable source". The posting of an article/chart/study/essay and dissect said piece routine is almost always a pointless exercise. There are articles that will support any preexisting belief one might have. Sharing articles is really only productive when one does not have preexisting beliefs.
I'm not necessarily accusing you of having unwavering preexisting beliefs, but you'd be in the minority if you didn't.
