I was a very active user about a decade ago. Did they just get out competed by other sites? Why is there so little activity... the Mac user base has only grown.

Apparently we're less of a club today. "Beleaguered Apple" that would go bankrupt any day turned out to be the most profitable business on the planet. And nearly everyone owns at least one Apple product today. Though we Mac owners are still a minority, it is a very large minority.

I'm not sure about that explanation. It seems to me the Mac web is more alive than ever. The MacRumors forums are even more active than MacNN's were at their height. New sites have sprung up like CultOfMac...
I didn't mean it as an affront. I really loved these forums. They were really a ton of fun around the time of Mac OS X Public Beta, 10.1, 10.2. I used the marketplace, was active in the lounge, even the programming forum. It's just a bit sad for me because it was a big part of "my" mac community and I don't feel the same way about the big Mac forum sites today.
It would be cool to see them revive. I'm just kind of curious why people have migrated to other sites. But, I guess I might not need to look far. I migrated to MacRumors more than half a decade ago precisely because these forums seemed to be dying. I suppose it's just a snowball effect.
I still think they look better than any other - but perhaps the MacNN front page is just not as appealing as some of the newer sites.

Because the forums keep giving error messages about being too busy...

Same thing all day today.
This reminds me of Mac/Crackrumors 2004-2007.

Why don't people post here anymore? I suggest asking various people via personal messages. It is a dangerous topic to discuss in public.
I will say this, the nature of the forums are a reflection of those who run them.

It's "dangerous" because you had one inflammatory post deleted from a news discussion thread?

The new Mac Pro has up to 30 MB of cache inside the processor itself. That's more than the HD in my first Mac. Somehow I'm still running out of space.
