Ok nobody is mentionning this, propably because it is mainly men and conservatives on this board but
NANCY PELOSI IS NOW THE FIRST WOMAN SPEAKER OF THE HOUSE.
And it opens the doors wide opened for what:
THE FIRST WOMAN PRESIDENT.
Now all the conservatives can go and hide for a while.

Because the Republicans were the first to have the first black female Secretary of State? Can you be any more daft? You, and your type, are the only ones who still has gender issues.
Also, Liberals outnumber Conservatives 2 to 1 on this forum.

Not Guilty. Still got the commemorative mug celebrating Baroness Thatcher's last win.

I'm going to have to agree with Dakar² on this one. Sure, it's a breakthrough for Pelosi to be the first madam of the House but I look at the person rather than the sex / skin color / faith.
Here in MN the first Muslim has been elected to the House -- Rep. Keith Ellison. Ellison also happens to be black. I don't live in his district but I'm happy he won -- not because of his faith or his color, but for what he stands for. Also, I found his campaign to be refreshingly positive -- a stark difference from his opponent and the fights for other seats. I abhor the negative campaigns.

Conservatives love Ann Coulter. Libs hate her. So it'd be entirely incorrect for someone to say that male conservatives hate politically-involved women.

This reminds me of a recent conversation I had with two people who are on the outer edges of the two major parties (I'm independent). The conservative argued that Ann Coulter and Rush Limbaugh were über political gods. The liberal argued that Amy Goodman walks on water. I look at all three of those people and I see wingnuts.

I fought for the side I believe is the better party, and they lost. It's not the end of the world. I hope the Democrats can do better because my kids' futures depend on it. I hope they do get us off of ME oil. I hope they do figure out a way to win in Iraq and not by having our military leave in defeat and humiliation. I'm hopeful that the party in general has shifted to its more conservative base and has done what they've been told for a long time now that they need to do........abandon the far left.
This can be a good thing because it will motivate the Republicans to move to the right in response and the politicians on both sides might just start listening to what the real values are of the majority of Americans from both parties. This business of the Republicans only having to be marginally to the right of the Democrats, believing their constituents will remain loyal to them, did have to come to a stop at some point. I couldn't do a protest vote or stay home like so many Republicans did, I just couldn't do it.
I do understand the frustration about Iraq because I feel the same way in many respects. We just can't keep watching our fellow Americans (mostly still very young adults barely beginning their lives) to be popped off while we spends years and years building schools and hospitals. We have fooled ourselves into believing that the nature of warfare has changed and it hasn't. It's as bloody and brutal as ever if not more so because our enemies are as brutal as ever.
Our govt wants to send in our military to fight as a bunch of nice guys and war is never nice. We will never win any war when our objective is to win "the hearts and minds" while we are fighting them. In my opinion, winning any war can only be acheived by handing the enemy a military defeat so severe that they unconditionally surrender and that can only happen when the political will is there to fight a bloody, brutal battle and worry about the hearts and minds later. Almost 2 million civilians died in WWll due to collateral damage. But My Gawd, we won WWll and defeated Hitler in less time than we've been fighting in Iraq, and we weren't a military superpower back then. We are now and yet do not have the political will to have no mercy on the enemy. As long as that is the case, then we don't need to be sending even one military member in to die. I can't imagine what it must feel like to be one of them in war right now knowing that they might be the last one to die for a lost cause. It's like how they must have felt in the last few years of Vietnam.
Anyways, since it's abundantly clear that we as a nation do not have the stomach to win in Iraq, then every day longer we stay there, is more lives lost for war that the govt is not committed to winning and that is not acceptable. We need to work together to get them home now. If and when we go to war in the future, we better damn well decide beforehand that it's worth throwing down for at any cost and if it's not, then for God's sakes don't be sending in young people to die.
I can only take so much of talking about and thinking about politics before I need a mental break. Whoever is in power, my life goes on. I intend to thoroughly enjoy the rest of my kids' childhoods. Watching them play on their sports teams and become the awesome little athletes they're devoloping into is something I so thoroughly enjoy that even this can't get me too down. And their competitive teams they're on keeps me driving around the state and region so much that I have less and less time for politics anyways. Good Luck Dems!

How would you count, by going through every thread and trying to determine political affiliation? If so, let's see your tally.
Actually, nevermind. You can't. Your claim cannot be substantiated without polling every person who posts here -- something that probably won't happen.
Please refrain from trying to pass your opinions off as fact.

Not a fan of context are we? Fine, let's just say that maybe I should have been a bit more clear that I was talking about legal trial rights -- jury, habeas corpus, all that. Of course, the fact that I mentioned the military tribunal system should have been a dead giveaway, yes?

I think it all boils down to nothing but cannon fodder for both sides.
By and large, our Govt can't get crap done, no matter which side is in power. Big Brother doesn't now his ass from breakfast.
Dems cried and whined about Reps for years like it was TEH END OF TEH WURLD. Reps didn't do much at all, except give Dems something to fight about.
Now it's the Reps turn to cry and whine like it's TEH END OF TEH WURLD, but Dems won't do anything of any consequence any more than any American Govt body has the last several decades.
(expect raise everyone's taxes — especially those of us that make a good living — to pay for deadbeat illegals)
