The Classic Controller definitely seems like it was designed for the GameCube, though. That's what's weird.

Yeah, the Classic COntroller was throwing me. All we have is a N64 (in the closet -- hasn't been touched for years) and a GC.
So yeah, the answer is that I'm good as far as GC games/controllers go on the Wii since I already have the GC hardware.

Can anyone get through to 1-800-255-3700 Nintendo Service? It is giving me a funny tone.

A local best buy here on Tuesday (had the day off, went to get some DVDs) had two. I was shocked. I almost bought one...but right now the setup won't work. I have a projection system with all my equipment on the opposite wall; I don't want cables all over the place nor do I want to set it up in the bar with that TV; oh well.
Just saying though; they are around if you get lucky. I think Tuesday is a shipment day for best buy too; maybe that was the two they got for the week?

The thing about the bar is that it requires power, but doesn't actually need to be hooked into the Wii. I don't think it will be long before someone comes out with an adapter that lets you just mount the bar on the wall, and just plug the bar into a wall socket. I could even see a battery powered bar.
I've almost put together my own bar out of old remotes.

The bar blinks while you're calibrating the Wiimote, but it doesn't blink very quickly; it's fairly likely that the Wii just cuts the power when it needs to turn the LEDs off. Also, I'm not sure the blinking is actually necessary for the calibration process; I think it's just there to blink the dots that show up on the screen when you do it.

I put a component cable order in on the 24th of November, and they just provided me with a tracking code for shipment. I'm surprised as they said to expect shipment mid december when I placed the order. Of course I still have to actually purchase a Wii as well.

Can someone with a Wii please post a video of what the blue light should do when you turn on the system and put a disk in?

You certainly have a light fixation. Have you tried sending an email to your Wii yet? That seems to be the main point of the light. It is definitely NOT to help you put in a disc -- whoever said that was just wrong as far as I can tell.

OK, here you are. In short, it flashes for a split second when you turn it on and that's it, unless you get a mail.

Thanks guys.
So get this... got my brand new Wii (not refurb) from Nintendo today... the video out is broken. Gotta send that one back also.
To make it even better the Wii sports disk doesn't work on either system so Nintendo said they have heard about defective disks and have to send me a new one of that also.
For the recored:
Wii #1. Blue light doesn't come on, has trouble reading all disks. We sports disk defective.
Wii #2. Video out is major messed up.
They wanted to do a repair where I don't have either system for 2 weeks. I refused.
I ask to be composted somehow and the offered me a regular case to replace the paper one for Wii sports. Nice.
Lets hope third times a charm!

Wow, not only do they imitate Apple in their designs, but they directly copy their QA practices from the iBook.

In all honesty, i think they have seen the sort of things you say about Nintendo on these boards and this is their way of getting back at you
The only other company i've seen with such recycling of defective products are Apple's iPods, where a single customer can go through over 3 replacements of defective units from a single purchase.
Seriously though...i think it's just Karma that you're getting the defective products.

Ya that must be it. The Nintendo rep said they are having problems with Wii sports and are having to send quite a bit of new ones out.

Someone should set up a Wii-site to find folks in your local area to trade games. No sense in buying every game just to try out the Wiimote...

How much range are you getting out of your sensor bar? I am getting around 6' or so and that seems low, anyway to "up" the sensor bar output or something? My couch is about 10' away from the TV...

Are you above or below the tv? I find above the TV seems to work better.
: can't wait for the 3rd party sensor bars to start rolling out :

Well, I'm the best Uncle on Earth. I called Target at 9:00 am and they had 3 left. I live about 2 minutes away, literally, and by the time I got there one was taken. At this point, I ask if I can buy 2 and they say "1 per customer," and then say I can get my Dad to come up here, and then a target employee showed up -- taking his break early -- and bought the 3rd one.
So, I got a Wii, but it's not for me -- it's for my nephews for Christmas.
Supposedly, though, our Wal-Mart will have them on the 6th, so I'll try for my own then.

It is supper bad actually, just as bad as the DS's. It creates a solitary online community that doesn't make adding friends or communicating with them easy.
You want nifty look at Xbox live.

That's 12 a.m. on the sixth, if it's the same as here. Just so you don't miss it.

Yes, that's right -- Tuesday at midnight.
Of course, I'm trying to decide how badly I want one. I'm not worried about having one before Christmas or anything, but we would like one -- though I don't know if we want one now that bad.
I may just get up at 5:00am (like normal) and head straight the Wally, crossing my fingers...

Games aren't really taking advantage of it yet, it'll be more interesting when games start using it.

Ok it has messaging but who really uses that over real email anyway?
The friends codes are so stupid with those long numbers, you can't even remember your own.
Not game comparisons or notices when friends come online is what makes Xbox good.
Nintendo is trying to protect kids with this nonsense and it is baffling as the Wii has parental controls anyway so they should treat every customer like a pedophile target.

Notices are something I wish Nintendo would implement.
Like I said, it's not XBox Live, but it's not horrible either.
The Wii codes aren't so bad. On the DS it was awkward, but on the Wii it's ok. I like my console having a unique identifier.
