Since we are all going to play this game for over 1000 hours I don't see the point in rushing to play it.
My g/f is giving it to me for my bday on the 29th.

We have a spoilers tag for a reason you know. Sideus,if your assertion is correct (played all the way through already? Sure...), then posting it on the first day the game is in release is just plain rude.

Never understood the hype or cared for the Halo series. Then today I bought an XBox 360 controller to play Bioshock (on Windows Boot Camp). The game supports the controller natively and goes into XBox 360 mode complete with overlay tips! It made the game so enjoyable. Fast switching of weapons and plasmids and vibration support. DiRT is also good but it's menu system doesn't have controller support. So I'm going to check Halo 3 out when there's a PC version on shelves and see how well it plays with the controller on the PC side.

Well, Halo took one year to come out for PC, Halo 2 only took 3 years to come out for the PC, so you can expect Halo 3 to come out in 5?

Which means I'll get it for ten times cheaper! Until then I'll have Call of Duty 4 etc to keep me busy.

*Really, it's only been out for 12 hours, so double (or triple) that amount and you may begin to understand the hype.
The Halo series revolutionized online gameplay. It made it easy to launch the game and within seconds be connected to players of the same skill level. Within another few seconds you are playing in a large consistent level that you would be hard-pressed to find a single glitch in.
I think I'm getting it tonight (since I gave my g/f her present wicked early) so look for FattyMcBlobicus on Halo 3 for the foreseeable future

I only got to play a few bits of the Halo 2. I loved Halo, but being 360-less, who knows when I'll get around to Halo 3. It's lookin' pretty snazzy all right.

Halo 2's campaign was fairly boring (at best) not to mention you could ride a ghost through most of it without having to fight anyone.
You can always come to my place up here for a some beers and Halo 3

It didn't revolutionize anything for a PC gamer like me and I saw no fun in shooting those cutesy alien critter things. Give me Nazis and terrorists to shoot at any day.

It didn't for me either. For me Return to Castle Wolfenstein and Battlefield 2 had a better impact for me online. Those are the ONLY games I really enjoy online with team play. I have Halo 1 on the Mac. The online is great and I do like it. The single player was weak though once you get inside the planet. It's an average game. The online is pretty nice, but not as big an impact, for me than some of the other big PC titles. Battlefield 2 offers a LOT more depth IMO.

RTCW and Medal of Honor. The beach assaults jump started online gaming for me. The latest Medal of Honor is taking things to a new level. It makes Halo 3 look childish graphically and gameplay wise. At times it looks like prerendered full motion video and the camera movement really makes me feel I am controlling a biped. Halo's Master Chief is still a roller skater even when he's in the jungle or going up a mountain. Halo is more famous because it's for consoles and MS spends millions on hype.

RTCW made me buy XBox and XBL, then it was PGR2. Really didn't played much of Halo 2 online mainly because WoW came out the same time.

Hey, wasn't Halo the first one with vehicles (I think UT was close behind with UT2004). Maybe that's only on a Mac. I had fun running over bad guys with the Warthog in CTF and skidding into base with the warthog. I could skid it in, in such a way the door to the base was nice and close. Jumping in a warthog was cool too. Of course I find it easier to drive on a Mac than on a console. I still haven't got used to drivin' a warthog on the console.

Are you always on? The "hype" is due to people being amazingly entertained by the gameplay. I didn't get any money from M$ to play Halo. I played it, loved it, and now endorse future Halo products....like 99% of everyone else out there.

Red Faction had vehicles (PS2) but IMO Halo had the first vehicles that felt real. Everything before handled like garbage. Halo made driving the warthog or flying the banshee easy and (of course) consistent.

I've played through a little bit of the first level, just got the sniper rifle. Impressive game.
I've already accidentally dropped every shield I've picked up while hitting 'x' for reload

Gah, me too! I keep bubble-shielding after I clear a group of enemies and I want to reload, so I'm basically just standing around admiring the cool effect. It was helpful in multiplayer against my brother, though, because he kept accidentally dropping those shield-sucking things right in front of himself when he was about to attack me.

Haven't checked out the online co-op yet, the multi-player is just as good as the 2nd one...except that this time around it seems like there are lot less 14 year old kids around (i actually heard "good job everyone" on the lobby)

Has anyone seen the documentary where Jen Taylor (Cortana) visits Halo/Bungie fans? Claude Errera's in it. Good for him!
The doc is on my Legendary edition, I don' t know if it's on the other ones.

So apparently the needler kicks ass and the BR also seems more powerful (if nothing else, it sounds better).
I am foaming at the mouth to start playing it again, but I'm only on lunch break

Yeah it takes some getting used to, I used to the same all the time in the Beta then I picked it up. Now that I am comfortable with using the shoulders to reload it actually makes a lot more sense especially if you are dual wielding.

Just finished the campaign on heroic. I agree that it was a little to easy, but Legendary will be on the menu soon.
Yes, Master Chief dies, but the end part of the game (think The Maw from Halo one, also think about escaping via warthog) is thrilling as all hell. It was the only part that took me more than a few tries to beat.
This game does live up to the campaign in Halo, perhaps even overshadows it. If only I had a 1080p TV

I popped in Halo 2 last night after a week of Halo 3... and oh my god.
Don't let anyone tell you that the graphics are only a little bit better... because it's a HUGE jump.

I'll second that.. they've matched the art style so well it's hard to see a big jump at first.. until you actually boot up Halo 2 and realise there's absolutely no comparison.

Also, finish it on legendary to get a little more cutscene action at the end... it's a very significant clip. Don't believe every spoiler you read, most of what's out there on forums/boards is just plain wrong

I played way too much HALO 1 in college. Wish I had a 360 for HALO 3. And a big TV. And a big wad of cash to spend on it all.
