I hope someone can help with this problem.
Every time my Mac checks for software updates, it tells me that I have an EFI update that needs to be installed. I choose to install it, the script runs and it reports back that the update was successfully applied.
But it wasn't.
When I go into System Profiler I see that the old boot ROM version is still there and it doesn't match the version the update says I should have.
So, is there a way I can force this update? I've tried everything I can think of, but I'm not that well versed in troubleshooting OSX.
Thanks for any help!

When you say, "the script runs" do you mean that you went into the Utilities folder where the updater was placed and ran it yourself? It should also have you reboot the machine. Read the knowledge base article linked in Software Update.

Go into your Utilities folder, and open the Firmware update app. It will do its thing, then ask you to restart. Once you power your mac on, you will see a loading bar fill up in about 5-10min. KEEP YOUR MAC PLUGGED IN, AND DO NOT TOUCH IT DURING THIS TIME. After it boots normally, you can delete the app in the Utilities folder.

Actually, it will ask you to SHUT DOWN, and then PRESS AND HOLD THE POWER BUTTON for five seconds.
THEN it will show the progress bar.
After it's booted normally, it will run the updater AGAIN, which will tell you that your firmware does not need to be updated, as it is already the latest version.
THEN you can delete the app in the Utilities folder.

This one didn't require the "press and hold". I actually read the instructions *twice* because this is the first firmware update I've seen that didn't say press and hold.
(It works if you press and hold, but you don't *have* to for this one.)

Thanks everyone. I'll give the manual process a try later today after work. I'm sorry it's taken me so long to respond, I was away on business.
I have rebooted after the automated install. This has been ongoing for months... ever since the udpate became available some time ago.
