The first one failed at being an action movie because there was too much bullshit and not enough gigantic fighting robots.
At this point I'm wondering if the new one is going to be more or less disappointing than the first. On the one hand, it's a sequel to what was already a terrible movie. On the other hand, everyone's expectations have been lowered and hopefully Bay has learned from his mistakes.

Transformers was just Clerks with a bigger budget.

I am pretty sure you are mistaken. American Pie was the most expensive movie ever made.

Mid-late 30's people I know care very little about transformers and were too old to play with the toys. We were mostly into Star Wars.

Being 26, and someone who watched Transformers religiously, I can say mid 20's. GI Joe, He-Man, Thundercats, Inhumans, etc.
Edit: Thinking about it, I should say mid to late 20's, early 30's.

I'm 33, friends older than me have the TF series DVD tin box sets, t shirts etc. I'd go late 30's.

Your friends would have been in their late teens when they were watching the cartoon. I believe such people exist, but I don't think that was the primary audience.

I remember watching the original cartoon when I was 13-14ish, and I'm in my late 30s.
Personally, I thought the `86 movie was amazing, it's vastly superior to Bay's garbage. Hell, Orson Welles was in it, you can't beat that.

Not with most cartoons, the majority of the stuff being made today is crap.

Honestly so was a lot of the old transformers shows, go back and watch some. They'll be a lot lamer than you remember. Though I agree a lot of the stuff being put out by studios like Nickelodion is awful. Though Avatar was an awesome series!

Transformers were released in 1983, which means I was 11 when they came out. An 11 year old in 1984 was too old to play with Transformers? I guess 11 yos in today's world are already drinking, doing drugs, and having sex...

Who here said they wouldn't be seeing Transformers 2? Maybe they should watch that video up there and re-decide.

Me. And yes, Megan Fox is extremely hot (when they airbrush out her idiotic tattoos). But I'm no longer 13 years old and I don't base my decision of which movie to see on how hot the lead actress is.
Especially when she's a certifiable moron who couldn't act her way out of a paper bag.

But at least you've got something to read when you get bored...
Anyway, as GM has nothing new to show at Chicago, they've made a Transformers 2 promo stand, with the Volt (Jolt), Camaro (car and robot Bumblebee), Beat/Spark and Trax (Skids and Mudflap, yes, really... Mudflap!!)
http://www.autoblog.com/2009/02/11/c...ts-on-display/
OK I just read up on Mudflap and if it was a previous Transformer (I'd never heard of it)
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mudflap_(Transformers)
Yes Mr Bay, an Autobot mini 4x4 is perfectly in keeping with Mudflap as a Constructicon crane that turns to side with the Autobots!
This is the one main gripe with the films, changing names around and giving them different forms.

The one thing that will be interesting to see is which new transformers they introduce, what personalities they assign to them, and if any actually resonate. Grimlock was always a favorite of mine from the cartoon, he was pretty funny.
It's funny that they managed to develop personalities in the cartoon far more than they have in the movie. Bumblebee in the movie was sort of a spunky, affable guy. Optimus was a father-like figure. Who else was there? Megatron was just generic evil...
In the cartoon Starscream was a little ****, Megatron was always plotting at crap, Soundwave was very obedient and disciplined, Ironhide was spunky and a big tough guy, Jazz was a hipster, Grimlock was retarded, Skyfire was sensitive and possibly gay, etc.
The movie spent more time developing the two humans, but I cared the least about them.

Messing up a Jack Burton quote is like...well...there's no greater sin in the universe.
I don't understand all the hate for TF. I loved the first movie. People, it's giant robots fighting, with a super hot chick tossed in, and bit of comic relief. I'm not expecting Citizen Kane or Lawrence of Arabia. Sometimes it's nice to simply see **** blow up and a chick bent over the hood of a Camaro. Is that so wrong?

There was far too much Spike and far too much Frenzy in the first film that made it drag. And it looks like they're repeating their error with all the LeBuff screen time I've seen so far. With that said, I still liked the film a lot. I also second the call for a MF-Optimus love-in.

I know this is a few months old but it still cracks me up when I read it. Since Thundercats has been mentioned and this thread is a Michael Bay love fest, I'll toss out this bit from The Onion. I'll NSFW this due to obscenity...

Yep. It had great potential, but was written for the 5 second attention span generation. I almost walked out when one of them said "oops, my bad." How gay is that?
