I've noticed it's been growing like crazy for a few months now, but I was wondering if it was just because of This Week in Tech and the wild implementation of its services by youth ministries that I've heard so much about it lately.
Do you Twitter? Are you sick of Twitter and its fans? Have you ever heard of Twitter?
I guess I just really want to know if this is as widespread of a thing as it feels.
[EDIT] My Twitter

Hey, at least your poll was public.

Yeeowch.
You know, I had a sneaking suspicion that I needed to do a quick search, but I thought, "Nahhhh. I would've remembered if I'd seen that."
But...consider this the first Twitter poll.

Yep, it's succinct blogs or mass txt messages, depending on your POV.
Edit: I, too, come from the future.

Is this the new "blog" or "myspace" for a new generation?
Frankly, I prefer having my private life out of touch with reality.

It seems like it's attracting adults, mostly.

Anyway, Jawbone, you're lacking an option for, "I would if anyone gave a damn." and "Infrequently/When I can"

I'm not sure I get this whole twitter thing and the draw is. Admittedly since the premise didn't grab me, I've not paid too much attention so I could be missing something

Theoretical situation. It's friday night. You're out doing something with some friends. You are curious what other parties are doing. If they twitter and you follow them, you can receive their twitters as text messages on your phone. So if they are updating their twitter with their current activities you can keep track and perhaps meet-up with them, etc.
Being old, and probably not a fan of text messaging, I'm going to guess this has zero appeal to you.
It's a very techy solution to a non-existent problem.

The annoying thing is that it's growing so quickly that it keeps crashing their servers. I don't mean every few days...I mean about 4 or 5 times per day.

I twitter, although I wouldn't go so far as to say I love it. It's just there. I post thoughts now and then, and get replies from others sometimes (although I don't really expect replies to my random thoughts). It's blogging for those with a short attention span, and I'm referring to both the author and the reader.

Bingo. That's probably exactly why I like it.
And yes, there were too few options in this poll, but I didn't want to spread the poll that thin.

Tried it, thought it was pointless. There doesn't seem to be any way to actually delete a Twitter account either...

I don't understand why anyone would read someone else's Twitterings (Tweets?) . Twitter posts are too short to give me context to understand what anyone is writing about.

I've noticed a lot of people posting boring, mundane stuff like, "Getting a grande latte. Mmmm, mmm!"
But there are also a lot of people who post funny little one-liners (see Merlin Mann), and they're the ones I pay attention to.

Yeah, that sums it up. I'd start one to the latter, but I know I'd end up with the former.

Twitter isn't just for "I'm eating a tuna sandwich". There's a ton of stuff going on there. You have to make sure you follow people that would make it interesting to read.

I love TWiT and Macbreak Weekly, but I hate Leo's Twitter. Then again, I listen to Leo's podcasts more for the guests than Leo himself.

Part of twitters appeal is keeping tabs on your friends, though, isn't it? So you're kind of doomed to: "Best. Muffin. Evar." twitters on that aspect.

I can deal with few muffin/Starbucks tweets now and then as long as the geek news and Seinfeld references keep rolling in. All but 3 of the 31 Twits I'm following are people I actually know, so we can toss around inside jokes and personal insults often enough to keep it interesting.

I tend to read the twitterers out there who dole out one-liners, such as soupysales (warning: NSFW language).

You don't necessarily need to know them personally. In fact, there are a lot of people I've gotten TO know through Twitter.

I've been following it with mild disinterest since it's inception and also with it's recent "boom", but as far as I can tell it's a cross between text messages sent to many and facebook statuses. Not quite sure what to make of it. I'm sure I'll jump on the bandwagon at some stage though.

Twitter is an extrovert's wet-dream. As an introvert, I don't have a use for Twitter (or Facebook or MySpace, for that matter). I keep my real identity off the 'net. I tend to be social in small bursts and then anti-social the rest of the time. I don't want to constantly know what my friends are up to and I don't want them to know what I'm constantly up to. I want to be left alone most of the time. When the mood strikes, I'll phone them or send them an email.

I really don't get it. I've signed up for Twitter and I have exactly one friend using it. I signed up to use it with my phone by sms and I put the app on my Facebook page.
Seriously, what does Twitter do that your Facebook/Plaxo status doesn't? Or a mass SMS?
I thought I was hip and up with the internet social trends, but Twitter continues to elude me.

Now that I think about it, it isn't Twitter I was thinking of but some other stupid social networking thing similar to it.

What's the difference between Socialthing and Plaxo Pulse?

I'm not sure, never used Plaxo. But Socialthing is really only about concentrating the status updates from different sites and being able to post your own to as many as you want.
I have one invite left if you want to try it.
